HUNT CLUB: Mickey Rourke Set For Another Comeback in Upcoming Suspense Film

Mickey Rourke Close Up

Mickey Rourke Will Be Returning in New Action/Suspense Picture

It has been revealed that actor Mickey Rourke will be making an attempt at another comeback in a thrilling action film called Hunt Club.

Even though he didn’t win the Oscar for his amazing performance in 2008’s dramatic picture, The Wrestler, Mickey Rourke isn’t ready to throw in the towel quite yet. On the contrary. Although he had nice sized roles in the 2010 blockbusters Iron Man 2 and The Expendables, he didn’t quite make it as a huge action star. He followed suit with some lesser titles throughout recent years but, now, he is part of a movie called Hunt Club which just wrapped production in Mississippi and it sounds like it could have the potential to rise above the average everyday action thriller.

Directed by Elizabeth Blake-Thomas, Rourke will be starring opposite Mena Suvari and Casper Van Dien in a movie that has a plot which will intrigue fans of suspenseful action pictures. The story line revolves around a group of men who con unsuspecting women to come to their island for a chance to win big bucks. It turns out these guys are hunters who end up hunting the women. But, this time, the tables turn on these men and it sounds like they choose a group of women they may wish they never messed with. Sounds interesting, enough, right? Well, it may have been done in some way, shape or form before but not with the incomparable Rourke at the center.

Rourke is an actor’s actor who came on to the scene with parts in well-received movies like the summer of 1984’s gem, The Pope of Greenwich Village, and when he starred in 1987’s Angel Heart, the actor found himself at the center of a controversial movie thanks to a sex scene in that film opposite Lisa Bonet. Rourke had already made the sexy movie, 9 1/2 Weeks the year prior but Angel Heart almost earned a rating a step up from an “R.” Basically, the first cut was slapped with an “X.” Though the movie ultimately got the “R,” Rourke was always an adult film-goer’s actor in terms of the complex roles he would choose. Sexy or not.

In the early 2000’s, he appeared in Sean Penn’s The Pledge and in the middle of the decade, appeared opposite great cast members in the hit Sin City but it was officially no holds barred when he appeared in 2008’s The Wrestler and secured an Oscar nod for the part. His director from The Pledge, Penn, himself, beat Rourke out for Best Actor (Penn won for Milk) and Rourke didn’t get the honor he so rightfully deserved. It was one of the most bittersweet moments in recent Academy Award history to see Rourke lose to Penn.

Flash forward to today, and though the upcoming Hunt Club hardly seems Oscar worthy, it could win Rourke some new fans and keep the old ones respecting the fact that he is still working today. It also showcases a good story line that will most likely get viewers in front of screens. Rourke deserves to be seen in whatever he does and has always been one of the most intriguing actors working despite any bumps in the road he has hit during the course of his long, mostly distinguished career.
