Thoughts on This Week’s In-home Releases

In a relatively slow week for new releases, Arrow Films release of Abel Ferrara’s The Addiction is my top pick. The Addiction is horror movie about a New York grad student (Lili Taylor) who gets turned into a vampire and starts stalking the city’s citizens for blood. The film has become a cult classic, though is admittedly not for everyone. The film has an interesting spin on the “vampire genre”, treating the blood itself like a drug that the vampire becomes addicted to. Definitely worth a look, or a purchase for fans of Ferrara.

Also releasing this week is Tyler Perry’s Acrimony. The film stars Taraji P. Henson and chronicles a faithful wife, who tired of standing by her devious husband, becomes enraged when she has been betrayed. His twelfth movie, it continues Perry’s hot streak at the box office, grossing $46 million worldwide. Though he has never found success with critics, Perry has a built-in fan base that is dedicated to supporting his pictures.

Also releasing this week as preparation for the upcoming Tom Cruise Mission Impossible:Fallout on 4K Blu-ray is Jack Reacher. The film was a hit with audiences back in 2012, resulting in a sequel released in 2016.
