Isabella Rossellini Gets an Oscar Nod for CONCLAVE Over Selena Gomez for EMILIA PÉREZ

Oscar Nominations Offer Many Surprises and Snubs
This year’s Academy Award nominations were revealed, and Emilia Pérez has nabbed 13 nods but not one for its co-star, Selena Gomez.
The Brutalist, Emilia Pérez, and Wicked Part 1 did rather well with Oscar voters this morning with nominations for Best Picture. These films were joined by I’m Still Here, Dune: Part Two, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Nickel Boys, The Substance and Anora.
There were some notable snubs, including two very obvious ones: Denzel Washington didn’t get nominated for Gladiator II nor did Angelina Jolie for Maria. Both stars have won Oscars in the past, so they hopefully aren’t losing much sleep over their being slighted in their respective categories.
Isabella Rossellini got nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Conclave over Selena Gomez for Emilia Pérez and Margaret Qualley for The Substance, not to mention Danielle Deadwyler who was snubbed for her work in The Piano Lesson.
For playing Donald Trump in The Apprentice, Sebastian Stan received a Best Actor nomination over Daniel Craig for Queer. Not surprisingly, Jeremy Strong got a Best Supporting Actor nod for The Apprentice as well.
Edward Norton and Monica Barbaro got their Best Supporting nominations this year for their work in A Complete Unknown. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were both nominated in their respective categories (Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress) for Wicked: Part 1.
Best Actress nominees included Fernanda Torres for I’m Still Here, Mikey Madison for Anora, Demi Moore for The Substance and Karla Sofía Gascón for Emilia Pérez. Marianne Jean-Baptiste was shockingly snubbed for Hard Truths. Meanwhile, three of the best turns of the year were in the film, The Brutalist, and all these stars deservedly got nominated: Adrien Brody, Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones.
Nickel Boys was a big surprise nomination for Best Picture and its accolade was certainly respectable and well-deserved. Kneecap was snubbed for Best International Film while Flow got nods in both the Best International Feature Film category and the Best Animated Film category. Challengers, the Zendaya tennis film, failed to get a nod for any of its stars or for its superb music.
Best Actor nominees also included Colman Domingo for Sing Sing, Timothée Chalamet for A Complete Unknown, Ralph Fiennes for Conclave and Brody, as previously stated, for The Brutalist. Notable snubs were Hugh Grant (Heretic) and Paul Mescal (Gladiator II).
Some people had pegged Babygirl‘s Nicole Kidman as a potential Best Actress nominee, but she was, alas, snubbed for the provocative film. Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore’s fine work in The Room Next Door cancelled each other out of the equation for potential Best Actress nods being they were both up for the same picture. Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis also both found themselves sitting out of the Oscar nominations altogether for their quality acting work in The Last Showgirl. Talk about “wicked” surprises. Still, there was enough “substance” to these nominations this year to ensure a great television program come March.
