MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: Reboot Script is Finally Complete

Dolph Lundgren Masters of the Universe

Wadlow Completes Masters of The Universe Script. Children of the eighties can throw their hands in the air and rejoice now that the first draft of the Masters of the Universe script is complete and the next stage of the film can head into production. Columbia Pictures has not released any new information about the film since signing Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow to write the Masters of the Universe script last April. The studio broke their silence this week when Senior Vice President of Production at Columbia Pictures DeVon Franklin took to his personal twitter account to post a caption-less image of the Masters of the Universe script. Now that the script is completed, finding a director will be the producer’s next priority.

I’m very interested to see what direction the producers decide to take this franchise in. He-Man exists in a universe that incorporates monsters and wizards as well as technology and space travel leaving the new franchise with a plethora of creative avenues to explore. Although the He-Man franchise is iconic to children that grew up in the 80’s, the series lacks the relevancy of some of the successful cartoon/toy brands of its era such as The Transformers and Ninja Turtles and is far less important to the current generation that it will be marketed toward.  Columbia Pictures would be hard pressed to do worse than the disappointing mess that was 1987’s Masters of the Universe that took place on Earth and resembled the beloved franchise in name only.
