Dustin Hoffman Cast in Forthcoming Big Budget Film

Screen legend Dustin Hoffman has been added to the cast of the eagerly anticipated Francis Ford Coppola movie, Megalopolis.

He’s a screen veteran who is also an Oscar-winning performer. The great Dustin Hoffman has joined the high- profile cast of acclaimed director Francis Ford Coppola’s star-studded Megalopolis. From Midnight Cowboy to Kramer vs. Kramer, Hoffman had secured his place in Hollywood’s limelight back in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. In 1989, he won the Best Actor Oscar for a second time (following his win for Kramer vs. Kramer) when he appeared as an autistic man who is kidnapped by his brother (Tom Cruise) in the Oscar-winning 1988 dramatic film, Rain Man.

Just in case you didn’t think Hoffman was funny too, he appeared in several comedies throughout his career such as the 1992 box-office flop, Hero, the 1997 satire, Wag the Dog and the 2004 box-office smash comic sequel to Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers. In what is a great casting choice for a director of Francis Ford Coppola’s caliber, the superb Hoffman will return to the screen in the almost $100 million budgeted Megalopolis.

Megalopolis is a movie that defies simple categorization. It is a film that showcases three central performers: Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker and Nathalie Emmanuel (she recently starred in the hit movie, The Invitation). This new upcoming film’s cast also includes many other stars such as Aubrey Plaza, Talia Shire, Shia LeBeouf, Jason Schwartzmann, Jon Voight (who appeared with Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy) and Laurence Fishburne, to name a few. If that’s not enough star power for you, I don’t know what is.

Francis Ford Coppola has been trying to get Megalopolis off the ground for many years. It will start filming very soon in Georgia. It’s a movie of grand ambitions that features themes of socialistic problems against the backdrop of love and politics. It could be a return to form for the director whose last really great movie was John Grisham’s The Rainmaker back in 1997.

Dustin Hoffman is one of the greatest talents of his generation. His career has spanned seven decades and his presence is sure to add more of the requisite star power to the new picture which is being helmed by the always intriguing Coppola.

Fans of Hoffman cannot wait to see the return of the great Oscar winner who is always worth keeping an eye on because he’s been nominated so many times that this role could just be another one to earn him a nod. Every project Hoffman takes on is unique and this time out, all eyes will be on this new performance in what could be one of the most ambitious movies in years.
