A Barbie Spin-off Film with Allan Would Interest Michael Cera

Michael Cera has admitted that starring in a Barbie spin-off movie based on his character, Allan, would be of particular interest to him.

You may have seen Michael Cera (Superbad) in a commercial during the Super Bowl the other night. The product was a moisturizer called CeraVe. In the commercial, Cera seemingly pretends to be the inventor. I mean, why not? He has the right last name. That’s for sure. However, Cera has also recently made headlines for his funny part in the box-office-hit, Barbie, where he played a goofball named Allan. Though a project is not in the works yet, Cera’s open to reprising his scene-stealing part from Barbie in a spin-off picture.

Cera recently told Jimmy Fallon in an interview that he wasn’t first in line for the part of Allan. Cera admitted that fact and, upon research, the makers of Barbie originally had Jonathan Groff in mind to play Allan. Now, keep in mind that the goofy Allan has but a few scenes in Barbie and probably didn’t make it into many of Barbie‘s reviews when it came out last summer. However, the role is still a unique and odd one because whenever Cera appeared on-screen as Allan, audiences most likely couldn’t help but smile as they watched the smash-hit comedy which was huge last summer.

Rumors had been spreading that an Allan movie was a potential “thing” which is why Fallon discussed the idea with Cera on a fairly recent episode of The Tonight Show. Hans Moleman from “The Simpsons” has been cited as a similar character to the one of Allan from the Barbie movie. When Cera isn’t signing autographs to promote CeraVe, he’s probably looking into future parts for himself. An “Allan” project would be just what the doctor ordered to launch the star that Cera is into the limelight.

Michael Cera starred in movies in the 2000’s such as the Oscar-nominated comedy Juno and the hilarious Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. It was his bit part in the sensational Barbie, however, that has catapulted him to stardom once again after appearing in many forgettable supporting roles throughout the years following the well-reviewed Scott Pilgrim picture.

Don’t expect an Allan movie to happen overnight, however. There will need to be a script and since the character of Allan is a very particular and peculiar character who just basically stands around, it will take one heck of a script to get the spin-off movie green-lighted in Hollywood. Let’s remember Cera didn’t have a whole lot of screen time to begin with in Barbie. On the same token, though, when Cera appeared as Allan, people took notice. That may be the only thing that’s important to executives when it comes to giving an “Allan” movie the official “go.”
