MURDER, SHE WROTE: Jamie Lee Curtis Could Take On Angela Lansbury’s Role in Film Adaptation of Old TV Show

Jamie Lee Curtis Rumored to Play Famous Detective
Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis has been rumored to be the star of choice for a Murder, She Wrote film which would be a spin-off of the TV series that starred Angela Lansbury.
“Murder, She Wrote” aired on television back in the mid-1980’s and 1990’s but it has never really gone away. There’s been a board game based on the show and reruns (including streaming, etc.) have managed to bring the world of Angela Lansbury and her old character, Jessica Fletcher, into people’s view. Now, Universal Pictures may be remaking the show as a movie and it may well star Oscar-winner, Jamie Lee Curtis.
Curtis has been busy these days with a Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday, and is soon gracing the silver screen in a juicy supporting role in the upcoming, The Last Showgirl, where Curtis has an Oscar-nomination worthy role opposite star, Pamela Anderson and Dave Bautista. Curtis plays against type as a Vegas server who gambles a lot and offers Anderson’s struggling showgirl support in difficult times. Curtis may not actually get the nod this year due to stiff competition but her role is certainly substantial given the energy the actress puts into her performance in the movie.
In the old show, “Murder, She Wrote,” Fletcher was a teacher turned mystery novel writer who was sought out to help people (including the authorities) solve real-life murders in a small town in Maine. Fletcher was played with elegance and sophistication which is something Curtis has in great abundance as an actress. Curtis won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for playing her quirky IRS character in Everything Everywhere All at Once which was the Best Picture winner for the year 2022.
It should also be noted Curtis flirted with mystery in Knives Out which was a massive box-office smash when it was released back in 2019. Curtis is also a scream queen who appeared in horror movies like Halloween and Terror Train. She got to replay her Halloween role many times over in reboots and sequels in that particular franchise. She has done comedy, too, dating back to old projects of hers such as the Eddie Murphy/Dan Aykroyd vehicle, Trading Places. She received a Golden Globe nod for her work on the first Freaky Friday movie which was a remake that was released in 2003.
This new take on “Murder, She Wrote” could give Curtis the chance to shine in a role she seems to have been born to play. One can easily imagine that Curtis can play the grand and wise Jessica Fletcher and, perhaps, maybe even bring more to the role than the incomparable Lansbury did. After all, back then, TV shows were not always as complex as they are today.
