MURDER SHE WROTE (2028): Release Date Shifts for Upcoming Jamie Lee Curtis Movie

Jamie Lee Curtis Film Moved to February 2028

Jamie Lee Curtis‘s film adaptation of the hit TV show, Murder, She Wrote, will now be released in the first quarter of 2028 on February 4th of that year.

Jamie Lee Curtis’s upcoming film, Murder She Wrote, will be released by Universal Pictures on February 4th of 2028 instead of in mid-December of 2027 as originally planned. This will keep the competition for the new movie a bit less competitive.

In the forthcoming movie, Curtis will play Jessica Fletcher, a retired teacher turned mystery novelist and investigator. Angela Lansbury made this part famous on television in the 1980’s/1990’s hit TV show, Murder, She Wrote. The casting of the 67-year-old Curtis in the famous role will help make the movie a potential box-office hit considering the actress’s very distinguished past roles.

The original release date for the Curtis film was December 22, 2027. That would have been one of the fiercest weekends to open a picture like Murder She Wrote due to the formidable competition that usually takes over the multiplex during the holiday movie season. The new The Housemaid movie is expected to open during that time period, for example.

Geared towards older adults, Murder She Wrote will most likely be quite comfortable in terms of its new February release date in 2028. Curtis is coming off a box-office disappointment, Ella McCay, but industry professionals believe the financial failure of that aforementioned 2025 movie had very little to do with Curtis, herself. Before that, Curtis had a box-office hit with the sequel, Freakier Friday.

Phil Lord and Chrisopher Miller of Project Hail Mary fame will be producing the new Curtis thriller of a movie. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) will be helming the big-screen adaptation of Murder She Wrote.

Universal Pictures’ upcoming Curtis movie will appeal to fans of the old TV show that it is based upon. Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) has a built-in fan base that she garnered throughout her career despite the disappointment of the critical disaster that was Ella McCay.

Set in Maine, the premise of the film, Murder She Wrote, sells itself. Anyone who likes a good mystery will find that the character of Jessica Fletcher is smart, capable and hard-working, much like the Oscar-winner, Curtis, herself.

While it’s hard to predict what type of box-office numbers Murder She Wrote is capable of achieving, it seems like the picture is destined to be a $50 million-plus grossing hit. Project Hail Mary is currently slaying most of the competition at the box-office which means that all eyes will be on this new production since it is being produced by the makers of Project Hail Mary. The presence of Jamie Lee Curtis is just the icing on the cake. Look for more details on the additional casting for the upcoming mystery film as they are revealed.
