Super Mario Bros. Movie Shifts Unveiling Date

Universal Pictures‘ star-studded family friendly tentpole, Super Mario Bros., has moved its release date from December 21, 2022 to April 7, 2023.

There has been a calling for a good Super Mario Brothers movie for many years now. In 1993, Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo attempted a live-action version of the immensely popular video game to small box-office results. That film made a mere $20 million domestically. Much more eagerly anticipated by fans of the game is the new Illumination version of the hit video game series which was originally slated for December 21, 2022. It now jumps over to April 7, 2023 just in time for Easter weekend. If the recent success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was any reason for the change, I would surely believe it given the warm reception the new Sonic film has received.

Looking at the A-listers associated with the new Mario movie will surely make the studios involved anticipate seeing a lot of green at the box-office. Some of those big names include Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black and Seth Rogen. Charlie Day and Fred Armisen are also among some of the other big names associated with the project.

Universal has replaced Mario’s slot for the Christmas season of 2022 with another animated hopeful, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. That DreamWorks film is highly anticipated as well and, like Super Mario Bros., is long overdue.

Chris Pratt and Charlie Day will be playing the roles of Mario and Luigi, two plumbers who find themselves in a maze of adventures trying to find a princess in the Nintendo game on which this fun series originated. Taylor-Joy will be doing the role of Princess Peach. Black and Rogen will be playing the parts of Bowser and Donkey Kong, respectively.

What makes these video games on which the upcoming film is based on so successful are the different colorful patterns the mazes take on and it’s a stroke of genius for the new movie to add Donkey Kong to the mix. Mario, himself, had an appearance in Donkey Kong, the original 1981 video arcade game as the guy with a mustache who tries to rescue a princess from the infamous gorilla who tosses barrels at our favorite plumber.

Anya Taylor-Joy is currently en”joy”ing a successful run with her latest (definitely not kid friendly) The Northman while Chris Pratt can be seen in the upcoming Jurassic World Dominion picture which is going to be released by Universal Pictures this June–June 10th to be exact. They are the main attractions, for sure, of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Illumination picture which will certainly pique the interest of video game fans around the world when it is released in 2023.
