THE MUMMY and MIAMI VICE Reboots Secure New Release Dates

The Mummy and Miami Vice Reboots Get Release Dates
Universal Pictures‘ tentpole films for 2027 and 2028, The Mummy reboot and Miami Vice ’85, have received new release dates.
The latest Brendan Fraser The Mummy picture is due out in the fall of 2027 while a new take on Miami Vice will come out in theaters in May of 2028 from Universal. These are two of the most highly anticipated movies on Universal’s slate so far for those respective upcoming years.
Oscar-winners Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning to a film series that was once a goldmine with the fourth installment in The Mummy franchise (not counting the one with Tom Cruise that faltered at the domestic box-office). The pair of horror film directors known collectively as Radio Silence will be helming this new edition of The Mummy. This movie is supposed to hit theaters on October 15, 2027, just in time for Halloween.
Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) is set to helm 2028’s Miami Vice ’85 which is slated to feature Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan and former Best Actor Academy Award nominee for Elvis, Austin Butler. This exciting Kosinski picture has picked up the release date of May 19, 2028, which will position it as an exciting early summer movie release.
The upcoming The Mummy picture is expected to be a real crowd-pleaser, just like most of filmmakers Radio Silence’s pictures typically have been. It is unclear how this fourth installment of The Mummy will fit into the series’ timeline at this present time. It should clean up at the box-office, however, even though it is no longer a projected summer movie release, but rather a Halloween season-themed juggernaut.
Miami Vice ’85 promises plenty of action-packed scenes and, hopefully, wants to improve upon 2006’s DOA (inexplicable) box-office hit with its pricy two leading men, Butler and Jordan. Universal Pictures hopes to extend these two aforementioned franchise movies’ box-office prospects by changing their former release dates which will give the studio more time to make these movies successful and properly market them.
Universal Picture is currently the second studio attached to the Michael Jackson film, Michael, which just opened this weekend and promises to make some major box-office dollars over the next few days.
Miami Vice ’85 has a strong set of leading men headlining the new 2028 release. Michael B. Jordan recently won the Oscar for his dual role in Sinners. Between his success and Butler’s, expect the new Miami Vice to soar much higher than the 2006 version did, financially speaking.
The newest The Mummy movie will have Radio Silence’s unique style to back it up and justify it coming so long after the last (third) movie in the once highly profitable franchise. Expect both of Universal’s tentpole movies’ new dates to be a good sign for the likelihood of financial success for these two pictures.
