Jordan Peele’s Upcoming Film is Set to Face Off Against AVATAR 3 During Christmastime 2024

Jordan Peele’s Forthcoming Film Set for Christmastime 2024 Release

Jordan Peele‘s latest movie as a director will be opening on December 25, 2024 which will be just several days after Avatar 3′s proposed opening.

Don’t count Jordan Peele out just because his last movie, Nope, under-performed a bit at the domestic box-office. That film still made $123 million domestically despite a less than stellar “B” CinemaScore grade. That picture still received very good reviews from critics and Universal Pictures has entrusted the Oscar-winning screenwriter with another project which is set to be released on Christmas Day in 2024.

If a movie positioned as Oscar bait thanks to its release date wasn’t enough for Peele fans, Peele’s Monkey Paw company has a horror film up its sleeve which will be released in September 2024 as well. 2024 will certainly be a year that Peele will get to prove himself worthy of the continued support he has received from film critics and movie audiences alike.

It all started in 2017 when Get Out stunned the movie-going world with a tremendous $176 million haul at the domestic box-office and an “A-” CinemaScore mark. This picture from 2017 redefined the way audiences view horror films and proved that a terrifying movie with a well-written premise could actually yield serious Oscar love.

This past summer, Peele’s science fiction extravaganza, Nope, stirred up some serious controversy. Those who know the film well will remember the shoe standing up on the television set featured in a key sequence in the movie. The purpose of the shoe had some audience members scratching their heads and wondering its significance but most mainstream viewers will remember Nope for Keke Palmer’s brave, fearless and terrific performance in the picture. Palmer was sadly overlooked for an Oscar nod so maybe the release of Peele’s latest film around Christmastime will keep Peele’s new movie fresh in Academy Award voters’ heads for the 2025 Oscars. Nope was released in July and many think Oscar forgot about it being that it didn’t strike the exact chords Get Out did.

So, Peele’s Christmas 2024 movie will be up against Avatar 3 at the box-office but that release timing is actually a brilliant strategy. Avatar 3 will undoubtedly be the hot seller at the box-office and Peele’s film should make for excellent counter-programming where people getting sold out of the Avatar movie can see another big film instead while waiting for the crowds to die down a bit. While it remains to be seen what Peele’s new directorial effort is actually about, with the filmmaker behind the camera, it is most likely going to be another winner. Peele is 3 for 3 so far with all his movies getting nice support from critics and audiences. His second film, Us, also enjoyed a healthy theatrical run though it was snubbed for significant Oscar nominations.
