Kristen Stewart‘s Welcome to the Rileys has acquired a new film distributor to maintain its October released date. The family drama set in New Orleans will now be distributed by Samuel Goldwyn in conjunction with Sony.
Samuel Goldwyn Films is partnering with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group for an October release of Jake Scott’s “Welcome to the RIleys.” The film, from this year’s Sundance and Berlin film festivals, stars James Gandolfini, Kristen Stewart and Melissa Leo.

This is how Welcome to the Rileys, written by Ken Hixon, distribution will be handled: “Goldwyn will take care of the psychological drama’s domestic distribution; Sony will manage the ancillary rights.” The distribution history of the Welcome to Rileys:
Apparition, which released the Kristen Stewart-Dakota Fanning vehicle The Runaways in late March, had initially partnered with Sony. However, honcho Bob Berney‘s abrupt departure from the company — reportedly because of the way The Runaways had been (mis)handled — made shot-term distribution plans problematic. In order for Welcome to the Rileys to keep its fall release schedule (October) — and thus have a shot at the 2010/2011 awards season — Apparition let Sony find another distributor partner.
