ON THE LINE (2022): Mel Gibson Suspense Film To Be Released by Saban Films This Fall

Mel Gibson Thriller Eyes November Release

The latest suspense film starring Mel Gibson, which is called On the Line, has been picked up for distribution by Saban Films.

Mel Gibson will be back with a vengeance in the new film On the Line. The movie’s rights have been acquired by Saban Films and it’s set for release this fall in the United States. In a plot that seems a bit dated, but nevertheless intriguing, Gibson portrays a radio show host who is threatened by a caller. This mystery person promises to kill Gibson’s character’s family unless Gibson can correctly identify who the caller actually is.

On the surface it sounds like this premise may have been huge 10 or 15 years ago. Today, it feels like this project could be past its prime. That’s because Gibson hasn’t had a huge blockbuster action picture in quite some time and radio talk shows aren’t as popular as they once were. That may sound like a huge generality but with internet podcasts and the like, I’m not sure how many people still listen to the radio. However, the movie which is in post-production, has that type of premise that could make the picture a nail-biter for audiences who are still fond of Gibson despite his troubled career and like to be kept of the edge of their seats.

Gibson recently delivered a career-rejuvenating performance in the dramatic comedy Father Stu. He hasn’t had as much luck with some of his straight to streaming action pictures but On the Line could change all that. For one, the plot line is more commercially accessible than some of his other action movies. Also, some of those movies didn’t showcase Gibson in a lead role. If this new upcoming film works, it could be a segue to a monster comeback for Gibson who was said to be tinkering with a new Lethal Weapon picture several months ago.

Also starring in On the Line will be Kevin Dillon, Enrique Arce, William Moseley and Nadia Fares. This film is directed by Romuald Boulanger. It promises to be an intense story of survival.

There’s no denying that Mel Gibson is poised to re-establish his place in the movies as an action hero to root for. Under Saban Films’ release strategy (which is uncertain as of now) this picture could be the one to bring Gibson back into the limelight. Father Stu proved he could still act. All Gibson has to do is get his old audience back to re-establish himself in the action picture arena. Despite my mixed feelings about the plot of On the Line, I will certainly be putting it on my must-see list to see if Gibson can pull off a winner. It’s planned to be released by Saban Films in November of this year.
