One Battle After Another for Popular Film to Take Home Golden Globes

One Battle After Another will be competing in the Best Comedy/Musical category at the Golden Globes where it is poised to receive many nominations.

It’s “one battle after another” for awards this season as the latest Paul Thomas Anderson film of the same name is set to compete against a probable box-office juggernaut, Wicked: For Good, in the Best Comedy/Musical category. Some insiders have predicted Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another will score more than 10 Golden Globe nominations despite fierce competition this year from many other movies and the performances in them.

Wicked: For Good is the closest competitor for Anderson’s film in the Best Picture (Comedy or Musical) category at the Globes, but after screening at the New York Film Festival, some folks have determined that A24’s Marty Supreme has the dark horse potential to unseat Anderson’s film as the best picture for 2025 in the same category.

While Anderson is long due to take home the Oscar and the Golden Globes are usually a good indicator of what is to come at the Academy Awards, don’t crown Anderson the “King” of 2025 (AKA Best Director). He and his film have to get nominated first. OK, so the nominations in the Golden Globes and the Oscars for the Anderson film are virtually guaranteed, but without everyone having seen Wicked: For Good yet, it’s almost impossible to underscore that sequel’s potential to take home the coveted Golden Globe for Best Picture in its respective category.

Acting categories in the supporting Golden Globe races don’t differentiate between comedy and drama so Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall and Teyana Taylor should all get into the race, no problem. Benicio Del Toro’s performance in the film was a lot funnier than Sean Penn’s deadly serious turn in the picture, though. It’s definitely a movie that walks the lines between comedy and drama. Chase Infiniti and Leonardo DiCaprio will most likely battle competitors in the leading comedy/musical acting categories and should make the final cut as nominees.

These upcoming Golden Globe nominations are set to be unveiled on December 8th of this year. We predict that One Battle After Another will make the cut in all of the expected categories, but cannot guarantee a win for it with Wicked: For Good in the competition. Marty Supreme is also Oscar bait of the highest caliber as well. It seems that One Battle After Another has the edge to win because of veteran director Anderson’s long-time standing without a best directing Oscar victory. However, given Marty Supreme’s terrific New York Film Festival reception, we have to wait a little longer to make our final Golden Globe winners predictions.
