THE FABULOUS FOUR: Bleecker Street Films Obtains Rights to Upcoming Bette Midler Ensemble Comedy

Bette Midler Close Up

Bleecker Street Films Gets Rights For Star-Studded Bette Midler Movie

Bleecker Street Films has acquired the North American rights for the upcoming Bette Midler vehicle, The Fabulous Four which will star some other fine female talents as well.

Director Jocelyn Moorhouse (How to Make an American Quilt)’s upcoming movie, The Fabulous Four, will be showcasing the talents of some of the finest female performers in show business today with Hocus Pocus 2 star, Bette Midler and Oscar-winner Susan Sarandon top-lining the picture alongside Megan Mullally and the incomparable Sissy Spacek. Bleecker Street Films has obtained the rights for the movie in the United States and that will make it one of the most anticipated films on the slate of the prolific movie studio which also has the Meg Ryan vehicle, What Happens Later, on its forthcoming list of movies to soon be released.

Filming of The Fabulous Four (which Bleecker Street plans on releasing theatrically) will be starting in Australia in 2023. The movie centers on three longtime friends who go to Key West, Florida as bridesmaids to their old time college pal Marilyn (to be played by the Divine Miss M, Midler, herself). This sounds like a premise to a can’t miss female-led movie in the vein of Midler’s own The First Wives Club in terms of the new film’s lady star power.

Susan Sarandon is the next most notable name in the cast beside Midler’s. Sarandon has made a career playing thought-provoking characters in heavy movies like Thelma & Louise and Dead Man Walking but she also made a dramatic tear-jerker or two along the way like the notable picture, Stepmom or, much more recently, the tragic family drama, Blackbird.

Megan Mullally of T.V.’s “Will & Grace” fame and Oscar-winner for Coal Miner’s Daughter, Sissy Spacek, will round out the cast of The Fabulous Four which seems like it could be Bleecker Street Films’ “movie that could” when considering the tremendous talent involved in the upcoming film.

Bleecker Street Films has released a lot of quality films that seemed to get lost in the shuffle the past couple of years. Together Together and Mr. Malcolm’s List immediately come to mind as underrated gems the studio was behind. The studio’s high-profile upcoming Meg Ryan/David Duchovny movie, What Happens Later, looks like it should change the movie company’s luck for the better at the box-office. With the great casting choices of The Fabulous Four, there should be no reason that audiences wouldn’t turn out for such a prestige female-led project when it eventually makes its way to theaters. In the meantime, Bette Midler is riding high on the success of Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney Plus and she is likely to make another comeback on screen again with her work in The Fabulous Four.
