DIE, MY LOVE: Screen Legend Nick Nolte to Appear in Lynne Ramsay’s Upcoming Dramatic Film

Screen Veteran Nick Nolte Cast in New Upcoming Drama

Nick Nolte has joined the formidable ensemble cast of the latest drama from director Lynne Ramsay, Die, My Love.

Oscar-nominated screen legend Nick Nolte has played with the likes of De Niro in Cape Fear, Streisand in The Prince of Tides and Eddie Murphy in 48 Hrs. but has always stood out as one of the most distinct actors of his generation. His performance as Brian Banner in 2003’s Hulk from Ang Lee proved he could do just about any type of role, even if it was wild beyond a reasonable doubt. Many remember his Academy Award-nominated role in 1998’s deep drama, Affliction. His co-star in that film, Sissy Spacek, will join him in the upcoming Die, My Love from acclaimed filmmaker, Lynne Ramsey.

Die, My Love doesn’t spare any heavy thematic elements. Based on a book, it features Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson as well as LaKeith Stanfield. It deals with a woman’s conflict with psychosis and severe mental illness as it is definitely a picture full of affecting drama. According to the literary critics at Kirkus Reviews, the book “cuts to the bone.” If anybody can do heavy drama well, it’s Nolte who proved when he played against Barbra Streisand in The Prince of Tides that he is open to performing in deep character studies.

Now in his early 80’s, Nolte has proven time and time again that he is a talent to be reckoned with. He was seen starring opposite Robert Redford in 2015’s A Walk in the Woods. Nolte could be remembered for his fearless performances throughout his career that were brave, daring and, almost always, perfect.

Lynne Ramsay is no stranger to making movies on heavy topics. Ramsay made the 2011 bone-chilling masterpiece, We Need to Talk About Kevin, which examined the life of the mom of a school shooter after a horrific tragedy. Ramsay brought out the best in her lead actress, Tilda Swinton, who would have been nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress and potentially won if not for the overwhelmingly dark nature of the film which scared Oscar voters away. Swinton’s omission as a Best Actress nominee that year is one of Oscar’s biggest mistakes of all-time.

With Nolte on board the upcoming film, expect potential Oscar nomination buzz to start as early as when the film completes production. Sissy Spacek (In the Bedroom) and Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) are not to be written off as potential acting nominees either and Die, My Love could be one of the most acclaimed movies of the year in which it is released. Ramsay is also long overdue for Oscar recognition as well.
