Hilarious Song from Hit Movie Eligible For Oscar Nod

The funny and enjoyable song, Peaches from the hit movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie could be a contender for Best Original Song next year.

When the wicked Bowser (voiced by Jack Black) sings in the new film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it’s so sublimely entertaining. Well, the song, “Peaches,” in particular, is just a hysterical way to lighten up the film and is one of the most crowd-pleasing uses of music in a family film in recent years. Bowser is seated at a piano when he sings the song professing his love for Princess Peach (voice of Anya Taylor-Joy). Now, this clever song is officially eligible to be submitted for an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.

Many, many people saw The Super Mario Bros. movie which opened domestically this past Easter weekend and audiences simply loved it. The film received a coveted “A” CinemaScore grade and made a fortune at the box-office. Sold out shows were plentiful for the picture across the country. When Bowser comes on-screen playing the piano and singing about how much he loves Princess Peach, he repeats “Peaches” several times and it is so funny that laughter has been plentiful at screenings all over the world.

People are watching this song on YouTube as well. The music video has over five million hits and is growing steadily to increase viewership as people view the film and refer to YouTube afterwards to re-listen to the music again. Of course, Jack Black is a genius for making the scene from the movie work so well. With mediocre line delivery, the lyrics could have felt trite but in Black’s hands, the song has become one of the most adored ones that have been in a film so far this year.

It’s not easy to make a song like “Peaches” rise above the rest but the way the sequence in the film is done, the scene the song is featured in feels so perfect. The Super Mario Bros. Movie didn’t receive unanimous positive reviews but its box-office success coupled with the movie’s good reviews will help this song ride a tidal wave to the end of the year where it may stand some fierce competition. But, the song should be considered for awards nevertheless. It’s light and works for an animated movie that may have lost its pacing if not for Black’s brilliance.

It’s no surprise that Black co-wrote the song “Peaches.” It feels genuinely inspired as it plays in the movie and will be one of the most delightful parts of seeing The Super Mario Bros. Movie for those who have not seen it yet.
