THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR: Michael B. Jordan Slated to Star In and Direct a Reboot of a Film That’s Been Done Twice Before

Michael B. Jordan Will Be Back Behind the Camera and In Front
Michael B. Jordan will be taking directorial duties on a reboot of a popular film property which is titled Thomas Crown Affair.
After a hugely successful directing gig with Creed III, Michael B. Jordan has selected a new project to direct titled Thomas Crown Affair which is a reboot of the film, The Thomas Crown Affair, which was made in both 1968 and 1999, respectively. Jordan will be making the new picture for Amazon MGM and it is shooting for a theatrical release per the usual for Jordan’s pictures.
Jordan has been unstoppable as a leading man ever since he starred in Black Panther and his turn in 2019’s acclaimed, Just Mercy, catapulted him to top actor status. That film received an “A+” CinemaScore and proved Jordan could deliver dramatic performances that hit hard. For the record, Black Panther received the same great “A+” CinemaScore mark in 2018.
The previous The Thomas Crown Affair films were directed by Moonstruck‘s Norman Jewison (the 1968 version) and Die Hard‘s John McTiernan (the 1999 version). Even though the 1999 film made decent money and was advertised properly, the film came up with just a “B+” CinemaScore which means Jordan can certainly improve upon that picture given Jordan’s experience making blockbusters that received perfect grades.
The 1968 film starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway and was a considerable hit back in its day. The 1999 film starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo and became a sleeper hit at the box-office when it opened decently and proved it had legs that carried it through the summer of 1999 as an alternative to The Sixth Sense which was the number 1 movie that August of 1999 when both films came out. The 1999 The Thomas Crown Affair made $69 million domestically and did almost as well overseas.
The 1999 film’s premise revolved around a rich art thief and his relationship with a woman in his life who was from the insurance company for the museum where the artwork Crown stole originated. Needless to say, Jordan will take over the title role of Thomas Crown. It appears a bit uncertain at this point as to who will be playing the female lead in the Thomas Crown Affair reboot.
Michael B. Jordan is a true leading man through and through and has the charisma of both Steve McQueen and Pierce Brosnan so he’ll probably be able to spin the material in a new and interesting direction for modern times. Expect nice box-office returns if the movie comes out as exciting and entertaining as its two predecessors. Jordan was born to play a role as intriguing as that of Thomas Crown and audiences will be expecting big things from this upcoming picture.
