Kumail Nanjiani Cast in New Horror Film

Versatile actor, Kumail Nanjiani, has been cast in the latest horror picture that is in the works at Screen Gems, Thread: An Insidious Tale.

His two biggest claims to fame are quite possibly his work in two very different projects, The Big Sick and Eternals. It’s always entertaining to watch Kumail Nanjiani. The interesting and charismatic star, Nanjiani, has just joined Mandy Moore in the cast of Thread: An Insidious Tale which is a new scary movie which is currently being conceived and put together as a spinoff film from the wildly popular Insidious franchise.

Thread: An Insidious Tale is the sixth movie in the Insidious series but acts as a standalone picture from the other five movies. Nanjiani and Moore will play a couple who try to travel back in time to prevent the death of their daughter. The fifth movie from the series, Insidious: The Red Door, is on the movie slate for this summer and is due out in theaters July 7th.

Jeremy Slater will be guiding Nanjiani in his performance in the upcoming spinoff picture as Slater will be the film’s director. The picture’s other star, Moore, was one of the “it” girls from back in 2003 when she was featured on a Vanity Fair cover with young (at the time) superstars like Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan and Alexis Bledel, to name a few. More recently, Moore has been seen regularly in the tear-jerking television show, “This is Us.”

Nanjiani was nominated for an Academy Award for co-writing the great 2017 film, The Big Sick. That movie helped cement the performer/writer as a talent to take very seriously. When he co-starred in Marvel’s box-office flop, Eternals, in 2021, Nanjiani was one of the few good things about that particular movie which was otherwise very forgettable. It marked a big-budget role staple for the actor, however.

This Insidious picture that Nanjiani is starring in looks to be a completely different type of project for the highly acclaimed actor. Mandy Moore is also not known for appearing in too many big screen horror movies either which makes both of these stars’ casting very intriguing.

Kumail Nanjiani was recently in a mini-series called Welcome to Chippendales for Hulu. In The Big Sick, the actor played with Holly Hunter, Ray Romano and Zoe Kazan in a heartwarming story that was one of the most intelligent pictures of the year it was released. In 2020, Nanjiani starred with Issa Rae in the funny movie, The Lovebirds, which sadly got overlooked by many because of the pandemic but remains a very unique film nevertheless. Nanjiani is going to be in the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife as well.

While you wait for Thread: An Insidious Tale, you can check out Insidious: The Red Door which has two weeks to shine at the box-office before Oppenheimer and Barbie double team up to slam it from the top of the box-office charts.
