Top Gun: Maverick Will Be Back on the Big Screen

The most acclaimed blockbuster of the year, Top Gun: Maverick, is set to return to theaters from December 2nd through December 15th.

When Paramount Pictures’ smash hit, Top Gun: Maverick, opened, it immediately won the hearts of America. Audiences welcomed the move with open arms despite the passage of over 35 years since the 1986 original film, Top Gun, graced the silver screen. Now, audiences will be able to see the movie on the big screen again if they missed it. If you already saw it, here’s your chance to see it again.

There is something known as the “Mount Rushmore” of film sequels and Top Gun: Maverick has arguably won its place there, according to huge fans of the picture. Academy Award buzz is brewing for the sequel as well which makes its re-release all the more understandable.

For all you Lady Gaga fans out there, this re-release will allow you to listen to Lady Gaga’s hit song for the movie, “Hold My Hand,” again during the end credits of the picture. The song also plays in the middle of the film as well. In case you didn’t know that fact, here’s your chance to listen out for it. I’ll give you a hint: it’s played in a scene between Cruise and love interest Jennifer Connelly at about the halfway mark of the picture.

IMAX showings and regular showings of the film will be available for the two weeks of the picture’s re-release. Another blockbuster, Avatar: The Way of Water, will be opening the day after this re-release completes its run.

While Top Gun: Maverick will make its way to Paramount Plus in time for Christmas (December 22nd, to be exact), seeing the movie on the big screen is the only way to do it justice. This film received an “A+” CinemaScore and is the quintessential big screen event of the year.

When the movie was considered to be released to streaming during the height of the pandemic, the studio opted to wait to release it on the big screen where it deserved to be seen first. While other big screen events like Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984 got released theatrically during the pandemic, those films didn’t fare well financially. Paramount made the perfect decision to hold on to Top Gun: Maverick until audiences were ready to return to theaters.

Don’t miss the chance to see Top Gun: Maverick during the next two weeks as it is set to hit theaters for a last theatrical hurrah. The film will end its major theater run December 15th. This picture is quite possibly going to get an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture and will, definitely, get a slew of technical Oscar nominations as well. And if all goes really well. Lady Gaga’s song may even sneak into the Oscar race.
