Lovelife, Peacemaker, Charmed, In Treatment, Scenes from a Marriage, The Adam Project, Triage, Stargirl, and Gotham City PD have made recent TV show casting, TV mini-series casting, TV movie casting, and TV directing news. These shows and movies air on: The CW, ABC, Apple TV Plus, HBO Max, Netflix, Showtime, and HBO. Beware of spoilers in these casting announcements.

Love Life

William Jackson Harper has been cast as an unnamed character that “comes out of a years-long relationship with the woman he thought was going to be his person. The rug pulled out from under him, he is plunged back into the search for the romantic fulfillment that he thought he’d already found.”

He joins already cast Anna Kendrick.

Peacemaker

Danielle Brooks has been cast as Leota Adebayo.

Robert Patrick has been cast as Auggie Smith.

Jennifer Holland has been cast as Emilia Harcourt, an NSA agent “who works with A.R.G.U.S. to monitor the Suicide Squad.”

Chris Conrad has been cast as Vigilante / Adrian Chase. “Vigilante is a hand-to-hand combatant, a brilliant marksman and a master of the lariat. He was a New York City DA who sought justice in his own way as his alter ego after his wife and kids were killed by mobsters. Vigilante also has the ability to heal quickly and regenerate his body from injuries as serious as stabbings or gunshot wounds.”

They join already cast John Cena and Steve Agee.

Peacemaker‘s plot synopsis: “the series will explore the origins of the character that Cena will play in the upcoming film, a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. The series will extend the world that Gunn is creating for ‘The Suicide Squad’ movie.”

James Gunn is writing the screenplay for all of the episode and will direct multiple episodes.

Gotham City PD (companion series to The Batman film)

Terence Winter will no longer be the writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

HBO

Scenes from a Marriage

Sunita Mani has been cast as a unspecified character.

She joins already cast Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac.

Scenes from a Marriage‘s plot synopsis: “the series adaptation re-examines the show’s iconic depiction of love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple.”

Hagai Levi will write and direct the TV mini-series.

In Treatment

Liza Colón-Zayas has been cast as Rita, “Brooke’s longtime confidant and friend who supports Brooke as she contends with her own demons after a life-altering loss.”

John Benjamin Hickey has been cast as Colin, “a charming millionaire beach bum turned white-collar criminal reckoning with all the ways his life has changed following his recent release from prison.”

Quintessa Swindell has been cast as Laila, “Brooke’s distrustful, rebellious teenage client, struggling to carve out her own identity separate from her family’s overbearing expectations.”

They join already cast Uzo Aduba and Anthony Ramos.

In Treatment: Season 4’s plot synopsis: “The reimagining brings a diverse trio of patients in session with the observant, empathetic Dr. Brooke Taylor (Aduba), who is wrestling with her own issues.”

Archive 81

Martin Donovan has been cast as Virgil, “a secretive billionaire who recruits Dan for a mysterious restoration project. He presents himself as forthright, friendly and plain-spoken — but he’s clearly hiding a darker agenda.”

Matt McGorry has been cast as Mark. “An eccentric trust-fund kid obsessed with his Mystery Signals podcast, Mark is Dan’s best friend. Outgoing, larger than life, self-absorbed yet kind, he encourages Dan to take the job that will give him an exclusive story for his podcast. But when their investigation gets them in over their heads, Mark steps up and shows his true loyalty.”

Julia Chan has been cast as Anabelle, “a struggling artist and party girl who burns hot and bright. Loud, outrageous, and adventurous, she’s Melody’s best friend and fiercest protector — even if that sometimes runs counter to what Melody wants.”

Evan Jonigkeit has been cast as Samuel, “a charming, enigmatic professor who cultivates a friendship with Melody — but his strange influence over the other residents in the building soon leads her to question his motives.”

Ariana Neal has been cast as Jess, “a smart, independent, entrepreneurial ninth grader who strikes up a friendship with Melody. Stricken with a mysterious ailment, she asks Melody for help — a request that ultimately puts them both in danger.”

They join already cast Mamoudou Athie and Dina Shihabi.

Archive 81‘s plot synopsis: “when archivist Dan Turner (Athie) takes a mysterious job restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994, he finds himself reconstructing the work of documentary filmmaker Melody Pendras (Shihabi) and her investigation into a dangerous cult. As Dan is drawn into Melody’s story, he becomes convinced he can save her from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago.”

Rebecca Sonnenshine and Paul Harris Boardman are wrote the screenplays for the TV series.

Stargirl

Jim Gaffigan has been cast as Thunderbolt, “a magical, electrical, fun-loving, wish-granting pink imp from the mysterious land of Bahdnesia…Thunderbolt is extremely powerful, but according to the official character description, ‘the wishes he grants often cause more trouble than the wish-asker would ever expect. But despite his somewhat constant supernatural disasters, the Thunderbolt’s heart is always in the right place, even if it is wounded by the friends he has lost throughout his long existence.'”

He joins previously cast: Nick Tarabay, Jonathan Cake, and Ysa Penarejo.

Charmed

J.J. Hawkins has been cast as Kevin, “a transgender male college student who inspires one of the Charmed Ones to take on a very formidable opponent.”

Charmed: Season 3 premiere on The CW on January 24, 2021.

ABC

Triage

Kathleen Robertson has been cast as Virginia Sawyer, “the Chief of Surgery at New York Trinity. She is fiery, strong-willed, and laser-focused on fast-tracking her daughter’s career, so she has her daughter study under Dr. Finley Briar (Fitz-Henley).”

She joins already cast Parisa Fitz-Henley and Michael Ealy.

Triage‘s plot synopsis: “Triage is a character-driven medical drama that follows pioneering surgeon Finley Briar (Fitz-Henley) over three distinct decades at the same hospital. With the evolution of medicine as the backdrop, the show explores the interconnected careers, friendships and romances of Finley and her colleagues, and their tenuous relationship with time.”

Jon M. Chu will direct the pilot episode of the TV series.

Channel 4

Home

Jodie Comer and Stephen Graham have been cast in unspecified roles.

Home‘s plot synopsis: the “drama that will be set in a UK care home during the coronavirus crisis… the action will be set in and around a British care home in 2020.”

Gotham City PD (companion series to The Batman film)

American Gigolo

Gretchen Mol has been cast as Michelle, Julian Kaye’s one true love.

She joins already cast Jon Bernthal.

American Gigolo‘s plot synopsis: “American Gigolo the series is a present-day reimagining of the iconic film. Bernthal will play Julian Kaye, who is introduced 18 years after he’s been arrested for murder and struggling to find his footing in the Los Angeles sex industry, while seeking the truth about the setup that sent him to prison all those years ago and also hoping to reconnect with Michelle (Mol), his one true love.”

David Hollander will write and direct the TV series.
