Animal Adventure Film Pushed to 2026

The new live-action hybrid film, Animal Friends from Warner Brothers, has been pushed back to May 1, 2026.

Described as a road trip adventure movie where two animals become unlikely best friends, Animal Friends is also set to star Aubrey Plaza, Jason Momoa, Lil Rel Howery, and Dan Levy, among others, and will be directed by Peter Atencio. Atencio has been a frequent collaborator with Jordan Peele in the past, directing 54 episodes of Key and Peele and directing Peele’s buddy comedy with Keegan-Michael Key, Keanu (2016).

Originally slated for an Oct. 10, 2025, release, Animal Friends looks like it will now be competing with Disney’s The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is also scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026. It’s worth noting that Disney’s Avengers: Doomsday, which had the same weekend release date, was recently pushed back to December 2026.

In 2024, Reynolds broke the box office with the second-highest-grossing film at the global box office, Deadpool & Wolverine, and went on to become the top-grossing R-rated film of all time. Other upcoming projects for Reynolds include a Clue adaptation directed by James Bobin, which is currently in development. If it is half of the film that the 1985 cult classic is, viewers are in for a fun ride when that project comes to fruition.

Momoa recently starred alongside Jack Black and Danielle Brooks in A Minecraft Movie, also a Warner Bros. film and currently sits as the highest-grossing film for 2025, but it might not be for long with Disney’s live-action remake Lilo & Stitch devouring the current box office.

In what had been a rocky start to 2025 for the classic Hollywood studio, Warner Brothers has drastically turned around their 2025 box office returns with smash hits like Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and the family-friendly juggernaut A Minecraft Movie. With six months left to go in 2025, we will see if the new James Gunn Superman film and the latest installment in the Conjuring series (Conjuring: Last Rites) can continue their box office hot streak.

Unfortunately, we will need to wait until 2026 to see how Animal Friends performs.
