WEST SIDE STORY Actress Rachel Zegler Set to Present at the Upcoming Oscars Ceremony

Rachel Zegler Stand Alone

Rachel Zegler Will Present at the Oscars After Initial Snub

Rachel Zegler has been invited to present at the upcoming 94th Academy Awards ceremony that will be held this coming Sunday, March 27th.

It’s beginning to look like West Side Story fans will have much to anticipate at next Sunday night’s Oscars show presentation. First, Steven Spielberg is poised to be a possible upset for Best Director for his work directing the film and, second, Rachel Zegler is not only going to be attending the ceremony, she is going to be a presenter as well. This news comes as a surprise after it was recently revealed that Zegler was not going to be attending the Academy Awards and was going to be most likely watching from home.

Zegler fell victim to an extremely competitive Best Actress race this year which left her out of the running for the top actress honor. In any other year, she not only would have been nominated but would have had a real shot at winning the trophy. Zegler portrayed Maria in the hugely successful (critically speaking) remake of West Side Story. However, she had not been invited to the Academy Awards despite the fact the movie is up for seven Oscars.

It took a fan asking Zegler on Instagram what she was going to wear at the Oscars to help shed light on the fact that Zegler had not initially been invited to the ceremony. Zegler commented that unless a “miracle” occurred that she would be watching elsewhere. Well, that miracle happened. Zegler is currently making the live-action remake of Snow White for Disney so people thought it was a no-brainer that she’d be invited to the Oscars. Someone would have some serious explaining to do if Zegler wasn’t eventually invited.

The Oscars are owned by ABC which is behind Disney so it seemed odd that poor Zegler had to wait so long for her invitation to arrive. Zegler has tweeted thanking her fans for bringing light to the very delicate matter of her omission on the Academy Awards invitation list. This situation has since been corrected with her official invite.

Rachel Zegler won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for West Side Story so it seemed like she was a natural choice to be attending the Oscars ceremony. Fans are ecstatic at the news that she will be presenting and are hoping to see Zegler shine bright at the awards Sunday night.

Could West Side Story pull an upset and sneak off with a Best Picture Oscar? Well, between CODA and Belfast as competition, it seems unlikely but don’t count out West Side Story just yet although its victories will most likely come in one of the technical categories it is nominated in (Production Design sounds quite possible) and the sure-thing of Ariana DeBose’s win for Best Supporting Actress. Zegler will soon be seen in the remake of Snow White, as previously mentioned.
