Amazon Studios Picks Up the Next Reese Witherspoon Comedy

Reese Witherspoon Big Smile

Wedding Comedy Starring Reese Witherspoon Gets Picked Up By Amazon

Reese Witherspoon‘s untitled forthcoming wedding comedy has ended up at Amazon Studios after some intense bidding.

Reese Witherspoon is equally comfortable making us laugh in comedies such as Legally Blonde and making us cry in dramas like Walk the Line. While she won the Oscar for her turn in that aforementioned dramatic picture, she has a history of comic work that includes Election, Sweet Home Alabama, How Do You Know, and Home Again. Now, Witherspoon is playing in an upcoming comedy featuring funnyman Will Ferrell. While the yet to be titled movie is going to be directed by Nick Stoller (whose Bros is an upcoming gay romantic comedy that will undoubtedly be a game changer given its unique premise), all that matters is that Amazon Studios has gotten the rights and will, with little doubt, have a big hit on their hands.

Stoller’s forthcoming wedding film to star Witherspoon will be about two weddings which are booked at the same venue during a weekend and, as a result, hilarity will be set into motion. Ferrell (Elf) is the perfect comic genius to play off Witherspoon while Stoller couldn’t be more in demand as a director.

In the late 1990’s Witherspoon went back and forth between comedy and drama like a boomerang. In 1998, she starred in the funny Pleasantville which had dramatic shades but there was nothing funny about 1999’s Cruel Intentions which further put her on the map as a young actress to contend with. Witherspoon’s most successful comedy was 2001’s Legally Blonde, a movie where she played a young woman who takes on law school despite all odds and emerges triumphantly. She also appeared in director Mark Waters’ 2005 romantic comedy Just Like Heaven where she starred opposite Mark Ruffalo.

Where the Crawdads Sing is a highly anticipated drama which was produced by Witherspoon’s company Hello Sunshine (which is also co-producing the untitled wedding comedy) and that dramatic picture is slated for a July 13th release. If it’s a big hit, Witherspoon will be known for her attraction to movies that have great appeal to the masses. On TV, she’s a firecracker having starred in the likes of both “The Morning Show” and “Big Little Lies,” to name a couple. Many insiders expect Where the Crawdads Sing to light up at the box-office and earn nice returns.

You can’t beat the one-two-three punch of comic talents like Witherspoon, Ferrell and Stoller so Amazon looks like it’s going to have a big hit on their hands with this one. Fans of these comedic geniuses will be walking down the aisles of their homes to get to the TV to say “I do” to wanting to stream this one.
