BATGIRL: Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah Believe That Cancelled Film was a Missed Opportunity After Seeing THE FLASH

Batgirl Movie Was a Lost Opportunity for its Directors

Filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah feel that their cancelled superhero movie, Batgirl, could have been a part of the world seen in the box-office disappointment, The Flash.

The Flash bombed at the box-office this past summer. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you will have known that part. You are probably also well aware that directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s Batgirl movie will most likely never come out. But, now those directors have seen The Flash and had yearned to be a part of the universe which was seen in the picture. It’s over and done with but, judging from their recent words, it feels like the directors still wish that audiences had seen and judged the Batgirl film for themselves.

Recent Oscar winner for The Whale, Brendan Fraser and former Batman, Michael Keaton, were in Batgirl alongside the star of the show, Leslie Grace. This film was never really set to be a major theatrical release, however, but more of a streaming title for what was then known as HBO Max. The pandemic upset the whole process for Batgirl which ended up as a movie that the studio, Warner Bros., was afraid to show to audiences for fear of disappointing fans. But, in Yoda talk, disappoint many people the studio did considering the box-office grosses of the movie which was actually released: The Flash.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah seemed to have been OK with The Flash as were many film critics out there. Michael Keaton was reported to have had fun making Batgirl by one of the directors, El Arbi. Fallah still hopes there is a future superhero movie similar to Batgirl that the directors could be a part of. Both directors believe their movie was similar in spirit to Tim Burton’s 1989 classic, Batman. That’s right, the one with Michael Keaton as Batman.

It’s probable that Batgirl could be the biggest project of our time which audiences will never get to see. Could it really have been that bad? Inquiring minds would love to see it and judge for themselves. It seems the movie will be put in a vault, never to be viewed by the movie-going public (or streamers) at this particular point in time.

While the directors admitted they are fond of The Flash director, Andy Muschietti, and his producer sister, Barbara, it seemed like a definite lost opportunity for the filmmakers when considering they could not be a part of the world which was presented in that movie. The Flash is now streaming and audiences should embrace the picture as it isn’t half-bad. Keaton played a fun Batman in the movie but we’ll never know what extra fun could have been brought to the table if Batgirl was actually released.
