Thoughts on This Week’s In-home Releases

The home releases of Yellowstone, The Long Walk, 1408, The Ten Commandments, and Carlito’s Way are the most noteworthy releases (and pre-orders) on home video and streaming services this week.

FilmBook Editor in chief Rollo Tomasi reviewed Yellowstone and had this to say about the TV series:

Daybreak is gripping from beginning to end, thanks in large part to Kevin Costner‘s performance. The Montana atmosphere and Dutton family mystique (branding would be loyalists, fishing on horseback, etc.) is put together in a painstaking way. The creators of Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, wanted to bring a small piece of Montana into the viewer’s living room and they succeed.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Splitsville and had this to say about the film:

Splitsville is still a side-“splittingly” funny movie about the power of love and how it can make us do crazy things. It’s also about finding oneself in life at middle-age and learning to decipher who is the appropriate one to wind up staying with romantically when all the dust clears.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed The Conjuring: Last Rites and had this to say about the film:

The Conjuring: Last Rites is a bigger and better sequel that is absolutely relentless in getting things done while avoiding skimping out on all the scary scenes the audiences have come to expect from this lucrative franchise.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed The Long Walk and had this to say about the film:

Francis Lawrence directs the best Stephen King adaptation in years, The Long Walk.  A genuinely frightening look at a dystopian America where financial barriers have arisen and caused overwhelming despair, The Long Walk is driven by two tremendously accomplished lead performances and it’s hard to look away from the screen during the duration of the film.
