GOODBYE JUNE: Kate Winslet Slated to Make Her Directorial Debut with Netflix Drama

Kate Winslet To be Behind and in Front of the Camera in New Movie
Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet is set to be positioned behind the camera as well as in front of it with a new Netflix project titled, Goodbye June.
Kate Winslet’s son, Joe Anders, has written the script of Goodbye June which will be the first directorial project of his mom’s. Goodbye June will be set in contemporary England and will showcase the story of “fractured” lives of a bunch of siblings. This Netflix movie will feature a tremendously gifted cast of performers, including Toni Collette, Helen Mirren, Andrea Riseborough as well as Johnny Flynn and Timothy Spall.
Winslet broke out into the movie world with an Oscar-nominated turn in Sense & Sensibility but everyone knows Titanic launched her career even further than that Jane Austen adaptation did. Winslet did movies that garnered her much attention like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Revolutionary Road but it was her beautifully constructed turn in the heart-wrenching film, The Reader, that won her the Best Actress Oscar. She was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress (Drama) for her turn in Lee, a film which she was said to have invested a lot of time in and it was excellent preparation for her work on Goodbye June.
Toni Collette has had more than her share of fine roles but is most well-known for horror movies like The Sixth Sense and Hereditary even though Muriel’s Wedding and Juror No. 2 were more noteworthy films to non-horror fans. She received an Oscar nod for her supporting work in The Sixth Sense even though she had minimal screen time in the picture. Helen Mirren won the Academy Award for Best Actress for The Queen and appeared in hits like a couple of The Fast and the Furious movies and Barbie. Andrea Riseborough is an Oscar-nominated actress who garnered a nomination for Best Actress for her work in To Leslie. Johnny Flynn is known for Ripley, One Life and Emma. Timothy Spall is known for Mr. Turner and Secret & Lies, both from director Mike Leigh.
As Winslet moves into this project with these fantastic performers, the only question is who will be getting nominations for their work? Winslet will also star in the picture so how will the Academy recognize her if the film proves to be a success? For her directing or for her acting? Well, Winslet has enough acting nods already so let’s see if she can direct at least half as well as she acts. There’s a good chance she will be a remarkable filmmaker judging from the high quality projects she has made over the years as an actress.
