Inside Out 2 to Tackle Timely Topics

The sequel to 2015’s comic animated Disney/Pixar film, Inside Out, will not deviate from important and intriguing topics and is said to showcase themes of anxiety and puberty.

Inside Out 2 is looking like one of Disney/Pixar’s most promising upcoming projects. Director Kelsey Mann has suggested that the new picture will touch upon the themes surrounding the main character, Riley’s growing up process. The first film was a gem. It explored different emotions and how they interact in a young human being both individually and collectively. Anxiety (mental health) and puberty are just two of the complex topics that the upcoming sequel promises to tackle head on.

Mann believes puberty may be the most important of the themes that the new movie will portray. It has been stated that, “Heart, emotions and humor” will, of course, be plentiful in the upcoming sequel as well. Previously established emotions, Joy, Sadness, Anger and Disgust will meet some new feelings and mix and mingle with them. Now, Puberty and Anxiety will enter into the equation with what is sure to be heartwarming results. This follow-up to the original movie is slated to open in mid-June of 2024.

Maya Hawke will serve as the voice of Anxiety. Also, don’t forget to be on the lookout for Ennui, Embarrassment and Envy. There is an astonishing all-star cast on board doing voice-over work as well. Amy Poehler will be playing the role of Joy, Phyllis Smith will do her fun sad-sack routine, playing Sadness, Lewis Black will be Anger, and Tony Hale will be filling Bill Hader’s shoes as Fear. Meanwhile, Liza Lapira is taking over for Mindy Kaling as Disgust, and the always wonderful Diane Lane will play none other than Mom.

When Inside Out opened in 2015, it made so much money that a sequel was bound to happen sooner or later. The first movie collected over a half billion dollars internationally and $356 million domestically. It seems that later rather than sooner was the eventual case of when the sequel would hit as it will eventually be 9 years between the releases of the first film and the second one. Absence will almost certainly make the heart grow fonder in this particular case.

The first Inside Out was a true crowd-pleaser in every possible way and secured a solid “A” CinemaScore grade back when it was originally released. Many insiders will be tracking the CinemaScore for the 2nd film upon its debut. The sequel could be that rare follow-up film to score higher than the original thanks to the added “emotional” characters that will be prominently on display in the upcoming follow-up movie which will continue the story of the first movie. A mind is an interesting thing to trace and this kid-friendly film promises to be a fun-filled tearjerker just like its predecessor.
