New Karate Kid Film to Pair Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio

A new edition of Karate Kid will be coming out soon and it will match former stars of films in the franchise, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.

The cinematic Karate Kid universe will be getting a new re-working for an upcoming movie and two of the stars of past films in the series will be appearing together–Chan and Macchio, the “original Karate Kid.” Who, exactly, will play the new “Karate Kid” remains a mystery, however, at this particular point in time. Jonathan Entwistle will be helming the new picture which has a 2024 unveiling date on IMDB.

Macchio is known to the world as the first “Daniel-san” who was trained by the infamous Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita). “Wax on, wax off” was a piece of advice the wise Miyagi gave to the beloved Daniel-san in the 1984 original movie which was a spectacular picture that scored big with audiences across the world. $91 million was a box-office gross which was nothing to sneeze at back in the mid-1980’s.

2010’s Jackie Chan starrer, The Karate Kid, garnered an “A” CinemaScore and a whopping $176 million domestic gross and another $182 million internationally. It re-introduced the themes found in the 1984 movie and its sequels. There may be some people who don’t know this but Oscar winner Hilary Swank played in a 1994 film, The Next Karate Kid. That picture which showcased a girl Karate Kid grossed under $9 million at the domestic box-office despite a good “B+” CinemaScore but we won’t dwell on that one.

While Chan and Macchio are in the process of helping the filmmakers find a new Chinese star to play the title role of the upcoming picture, it will be exciting to see these two old pros appear together in the forthcoming project. This new film would have a release date in December 2024 if all goes well and it gets its lead star on board.

Consequently, “Cobra Kai” is back in the works, and will soon be entering its sixth and last season on Netflix. Karate Kid fans couldn’t be more excited. Also of interest were prior reports from a couple of years back that Mr. Ralph Macchio wanted to see a Mr. Miyagi prequel. If the new project takes off at the box-office, something like that could actually come into fruition despite some recent silence over that possibility.

While it will take some star power to help out the new person cast in the title role of 2024’s Karate Kid, the fact that Macchio and Chan are on board will reel us old-timers into theaters to see the new blood taking over the title role. It is hopeful that a new generation will experience the magic us 1970’s and 1980’s kids cherished with the original Karate Kid back in 1984.
