L.A. Film Critics Award ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER Best Film While Rose Byrne Puts Another Acting Prize Under Her Belt

L.A. Film Critics Choose One Battle After Another for Best Movie of 2025
The Los Angeles Film Critics Association is the next branch of critics to award One Battle After Another the Best Picture of 2025 award.
One Battle After Another nabbed Best Picture with the L.A. Film Critics Association while The Secret Agent was named the runner-up which was a major upset as Sinners was predicted by many to be the runner-up to One Battle After Another. Paul Thomas Anderson scored the Best Director honors from the L.A. Film Critics and Ryan Coogler (Sinners) was deemed the runner-up to Anderson by the prestigious organization which typically serves as a big indicator as to what film will ultimately win Best Picture at the Oscars.
Ethan Hawke was named one of the two best leading performances of the year by the L.A. Film Critics for his exquisite work in the dramatic biopic, Blue Moon. Rose Byrne also continued her red-hot streak with another lead acting award for her turn in the remarkable film, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. TimothĂ©e Chalamet and Wagner Moura were the lead actor runner-ups for their work in Marty Supreme and The Secret Agent.
Stellan SkarsgÄrd finally got a Best Supporting acting honor that he was predicted to get from other film critics groups for his work in Sentimental Value. That accolade for SkarsgÄrd was bestowed upon the actor by the L.A. Film Critics which chose Teyana Taylor as the other best supporting performance of the year for her work in One Battle After Another.
It Was Just an Accident secured the Best Screenplay award from the L.A Critics while Sorry, Baby served as runner-up. Little Amélie or the Character of Rain scored Best Animated Feature Film honors from the organization as well. Train Dreams won Best Cinematography, beating runner-up Sinners. In a major victory, Marty Supreme won Best Editing over runner-up One Battle After Another. For the Best Film Not in the English Language, It was Just an Accident triumphed over runner-up The Secret Agent. Eva Victor secured the New Generation Award for her work on Sorry, Baby.
The L.A. Film Critics are usually right on the money with their choices, but there have been times when they and the Academy Awards had different opinions on what was the “Best Picture.” For example, the Oscars chose The King’s Speech over The Social Network 15 years ago.
Sinners could still pull an upset with the Academy Awards, but One Battle After Another and Paul Thomas Anderson are looking pretty sharp thanks to all the love they are receiving from most of the major critics groups. Rose Byrne has pretty much secured every lead acting award she could receive so far except for the one from the Gotham awards. FilmBook is betting on her and Timothée Chalamet to take home the lead acting honors at the Oscars at this particular moment in time.
