MARTY SUPREME (2025): Timothée Chalamet’s Latest Movie Surprises with a Premiere at the New York Film Festival
Timothée Chalamet A24 Film Screened at the NYFF
Marty Supreme, the eagerly awaited big-budgeted Josh Safdie movie from A24 premiered at the New York Film Festival last night to audiences gathered for s surprise film. This $70 million film featuring Chalamet as the title character may be about ping-pong, but it moves at a breakneck speed, according to excellent critical responses which were posted on social media after the film’s unveiling last night at Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
Timothée Chalamet seems poised for another Oscar nomination for his work in this picture as the early postings have stated that this upcoming Christmas release is a winner. The film co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow in her first major role in years. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her work in Shakespeare in Love. Paltrow’s no stranger to movies with a wild, kinetic nature to them. She starred in Se7en and Flesh and Bone, to name a couple, but this time out, she’s made a movie with serious Oscar potential again that could go on to be a major player at the next upcoming Oscar ceremony.
At Alice Tully Hall last night, there was an audience eager to see Marty Supreme which was filmed throughout the boroughs in New York City so it has a real New York flavor to it. The successful unveiling of this film comes at a time where Josh’s brother, Benny, had just last weekend launched his own high-profile A24 movie of the year, The Smashing Machine. That film opened to a mere $6 million in a wide release despite a bloated budget and stars Dwayne Johnson (formerly known as “The Rock”). Marty Supreme should have much better prospects at the box-office than the Johnson film thanks to this especially well-received screening at the New York Film Festival. Of course, Chalamet was on-hand with the principal filmmaker to address the special event showing of the highly anticipated new picture.
Critics were ecstatic, for the most part, and it seems unanimous that Chalamet will most likely be on the path to earning another Best Actor nomination for his work in the picture’s title role. While tickets went very fast to the “special surprise” screening of Marty Supreme, an eventual review of the film will post from FilmBook as we get closer to the film’s release date. Without having seen the film yet, the early notices assure us that the picture is loaded with plenty of Oscar potential which it should deliver on. It opens on Christmas Day and co-stars Fran Drescher of “The Nanny” fame. The Safdie Brothers are, perhaps, known best for their terrific Adam Sandler thriller, Uncut Gems.
