NEVER LET GO (2024): Halle Berry’s Latest Thriller is Releasing a Week Earlier than Expected

Halle Berry Never Let Go

Chilling Halle Berry Movie to Get a Head Start at the Box-Office

The Halle Berry suspense-filled thriller, Never Let Go, has shifted its unveiling date up a week from its original planned September 27th release to September 20th.

Lionsgate is going through something of a rough patch right now. The studio just released a major belly-flop, Borderlands, which looks likely to be as big a money loser as any major failed picture before it. Then, there’s the matter that Lionsgate will not have a Saw movie in time for Halloween this year. What’s the alternative to a scary movie like the latest installment of Saw? Try Oscar-winner Halle Berry starring in Never Let Go which is directed by a master of suspense, Alexandre Aja. Lionsgate shifted the release date of this movie up a whole week most likely in an effort to cash in as much as it can before the new Joker movie opens on October 4th.

There’s probably the pesky situation regarding Borderlands as well. It has lost a bundle so far and, perhaps, Lionsgate is looking to recoup some cash from other projects to make up for the financial disaster that is Borderlands. Not that Borderlands is necessarily a bad movie but, according to most audiences, it’s not a very good one. The science fiction extravaganza earned a deadly “D+” CinemaScore mark.

What’s going up against Never Let Go at the box-office the same weekend? It’ll be a major battle of the one-time huge Hollywood actresses, Berry and Demi Moore. It appears Demi Moore’s new picture, The Substance, is bravely opening against Never Let Go. Well, that’s for the time being. There may not be room for two major scary movies on the same opening weekend. They could end up canceling one another out if they are released at the same time. Especially since they’re both female-driven horror pictures and are tapping into similar demographics. Berry’s movie could have the edge considering Aja’s involvement with the project. Will Moore’s picture move from the date being that Berry’s picture has been placed on it as well? Time will tell.

What’s Never Let Go about, you ask? It’s about a sinister evil a mother must come to terms with when one of her sons questions the validity of it. Berry has tremendous star power and can lead thrillers like few actresses can. This could be her chance to shine again but it will have to open to $15 million-plus to have a chance at being deemed a hit, especially since the new Joker picture starts playing just two weeks later. Opening on its original date of the 27th of September would have squashed Never Let Go‘s chances of having two big weekends before the Joker tentpole movie opens.
