BritBox has a new show titled Passenger which had a panel at Comic Con 2024. It is created by Andrew Buchan and stars two great performers, Wunmi Mosaku and Barry Sloane. Set in a quiet, small English village, Chadder Vale, a teenage girl disappears, a deer is found dead with its body torn apart and a local authority figure, Riya Ajunwa (Mosaku) is on the case. She’s the only Black woman in town and feels a bit like she’s struggling to fit into the village she has decided to take up residence in. Her husband has abandoned her which further complicates her life. Meanwhile, Eddie Wells (Sloane), has been released from jail after serving a five-year sentence although everybody thought he was going to serve the full ten years which he was originally proposed to fulfill.

Passenger immediately grabs the viewer’s attention as a sort of program which has taken inspiration from other small town shows like Fargo or Stranger Things. Mosaku, Sloane and Buchan appeared at Comic Con to talk about their new 6-episode thriller.

Wunmi Mosaku spoke out about her character’s fear regarding the uncertainty that Riya faces in her life in the small town. The actress spoke thoroughly about her character’s thoughts and actions in the show, even going as far as to discuss how Riya manages to get the hairstyle she has on the program.

Barry Sloane not only talked about how his character, Eddie, is perceived as a monster within the show but the actor also gave insightful commentary about the status of mental health today. It’s easy to view Eddie as a criminal but it’s clear that Passenger has a lot more in store for the viewer as the future episodes are revealed.

Andrew Buchan has a creative flair for rich detail which is embodied in Passenger and the creator spoke about what he hopes to accomplish with the new show. He clearly seems inspired by the likes of shows such as Fargo in terms of the way Buchan creates his unique and very distinct characters.

Passenger promises to explore many different aspects of living in a small village while unveiling plot threads which will take viewers on a roller coaster ride through Chadder Vale. The eccentric but credible cast of characters is top lined by Mosaku and Sloane‘s central roles within the show. Chadder Vale, the snowy town, becomes a character in and of itself within the program. While the inhabitants each have their own quirks, you can rest assured in Buchan‘s hands that by episode six, you’ll be thrown for a loop, according to the creator.

Buchan, Mosaku and Sloane were all very informative about what Passenger hopes to accomplish. Sloane offered a passionate set of words for those struggling with mental health issues and hopes that there will be assurance for such people who need help coping with their day-to-day endeavors. Mosaku is the central star of the program and she seems like a unique type of hero for a show like this which promises to differentiate itself from other small town shows in the pack.
