OPPENHEIMER (2023): Early Screenings of Christopher Nolan’s Event Film Are Leaving Viewers with Intense Emotions

Oppenheimer is Leaving Moviegoers Spellbound to the Core

Early screenings of Christopher Nolan‘s dramatic epic film, Oppenheimer, are leaving audiences absolutely speechless.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has had “Oscar” written all over it ever since its conception but, now, the finished product is actually living up to the promise it had set in its initial stages. The story of American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (the formidable Cillian Murphy) had seemed poised to earn many Academy Award nominations next year and, this time, Nolan could just walk away with the trophy for Best Director judging from audiences’ early reactions to the finished product. At the film’s conclusion, people can barely put together words to describe the deeply profound emotions found within the fact-based picture.

Oppenheimer, the man, created the first atomic bomb during WW II. This premise is not something elaborately fictitious as the films Nolan is known for like the science fiction puzzle, Inception. However, Nolan’s latest movie seems to be packing quite a wallop with viewers who are finding the picture to be devastatingly complex in nature when one considers the fear the movie seems to be instilling in viewers. Nolan states that the film is leaving audiences “devastated” but suggests that viewers are also connecting with the characters. This is no surprise considering the movie was always designed to make one think in ways that can provoke insightful conversation.

Nolan’s picture is slated to open against the much hyped up Barbie, but Oppenheimer is not all about scoring the biggest box-office gross in its premiere weekend though it will most likely do extraordinarily well financially. Oppenheimer was always designed to be the kind of big screen event picture that audiences have craved since the beginning of motion pictures. Its nearly three-hour running time proves that. A great movie is supposed to leave audiences moved and affected in grand ways. It seems Oppenheimer is doing just that for the viewers who are seeing it early.

Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh and Matt Damon may be among Cillian Murphy’s biggest co-stars in the picture but expect Murphy to receive the most praise in his “said to be” significantly large role within the movie. It hasn’t been noted as of yet but many expect the power of the film to rest on Murphy’s performance as well as several of the supporting players but since Murphy is the star, he will drive the picture and its success depends a lot on his acting. You may need to see Barbie after this movie to smile again because Oppenheimer is likely to leave an effect that will take some humorous comedy to shake off. Expect Oppenheimer to open well north of $25 million in its opening weekend.
