Director William Brent Bell has hinted that there could be a follow-up film to Orphan: First Kill and it may feature Isabelle Fuhrman.

Isabelle Fuhrman could well return as the scary child-like killer, Esther, in a third Orphan picture. The director of the second Orphan movie, Bell, is in the process of creating the basis for the next sequel in the popular horror movie franchise. The last time we saw Esther in 2022’s Orphan: First Kill, there were plenty of plot twists and turns that made for a roller-coaster ride of terror. Expect more of the same in the upcoming third picture which is currently in the development process.

Orphan: First Kill was a small-level hit at the box-office which, partly due to the pandemic, opened in a smaller release than was expected. It earned an okay $5 million domestically which could have been worse when considering it was released to streaming on Paramount Plus at the same time it premiered in theaters. For the sequel’s financial salvation, one can look at the international grosses for the movie. It made a whopping $31 million overseas. That was almost as good as the first Orphan movie’s $36 million international gross back in 2009.

Fuhrman has previously spoken about her potential return to the role of Esther with the hopes of reprising the part in a third movie. She is now an acclaimed actress whose award-winning performance in 2021’s The Novice put her on the map as a serious actress to contend with. In these Orphan movies, Fuhrman plays a demented grown woman pretending to be a child because of her dwarfism which leads people to be hoodwinked as Esther commits vicious murders in the process.

It is a good time to act on this third installment in the horror film series because Fuhrman is still relatively young and her appearance can still be maneuvered to resemble that of a 12-year old child thanks, in part, to visual effects.

William Brent Bell is excited at the prospect of the Orphan movies becoming an official trilogy. Because of Fuhrman’s involvement with the previous projects and her apparent willingness to do a third movie, another Orphan movie would draw crowds to watch it or be a hit on steaming at the bare minimum. A theatrical release could be a possibility.

Reboots or sequels to old horror movies such as Scream and Child’s Play have proven to still be profitable and to draw crowds or streaming audiences enthusiastically. The Orphan franchise is the type of horrifying film series that may still have some life left in it for more chapters with the psychotic Esther at the helm.
