New Film to Star Legendary Actress Diane Keaton

Diane Keaton will be returning to the screen again with the upcoming comedy called Summer Camp which will feature her in a lead role.

Oscar-winning actress, Diane Keaton, hasn’t made the best films lately with two entertaining, but forgettable, recent movies under her belt: Mack & Rita and Maybe I Do. She is expected to be back in top form in the soon to be released sequel, Book Club: The Next Chapter. Her next film will be a touching comedy called Summer Camp where Keaton will play opposite accomplished actresses/heavy-hitters, Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard.

Summer Camp will start production in April and will be the story of three women who grew up going to summer camp together as kids. Over the years, these women have drifted somewhat apart a bit so when the opportunity to attend a camp reunion comes up for the three ladies, they don’t hesitate to seize the opportunity. Castille Landon will be directing the high-profile movie from her very own screenplay. Expect plenty of laughs and possibly a few heartfelt moments along the way as well.

Keaton has been cast in this upcoming picture alongside Bates and Woodard who both, just like Keaton herself, can play comedy and drama with equally effective results. Kathy Bates needs no introduction. She won the Oscar as a crazed fan who kidnaps her favorite author in Misery which was based on a Stephen King story. Bates went on to star in dramas like Titanic and Primary Colors but also did great in comedies like Adam Sandler’s hit, The Waterboy. She was recently seen in the drama, Richard Jewell. Woodard did comedy terrifically in 1993 opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Heart & Souls then many years later, did the recent heart-wrenching dramatic film, Clemency. Woodard is an actress with a tremendous range who has a very impressive resume of motion picture work.

Director Landon is hoping for memorable chemistry to be created between these three actresses who will be featured in Summer Camp. It’s certain that this cast is a dream team for movies and recent films like 80 for Brady have proven there’s an audience for older female ensemble cast driven pictures.

For Keaton, the time is now to prove to her fans that she can return to her roots and make comedies with more substance than her last two pictures showcased. Mack & Rita was a box-office disappointment earning just $2.5 million domestically this past summer. It was a body switch comedy with great potential but didn’t feature Keaton’s best work and was advertised poorly. It didn’t help that audiences didn’t dig it awarding it a “D+” CinemaScore mark. Summer Camp is likely to bring Keaton back in full force to the type of warm-hearted comedies which she is best known for.
