Diane Keaton Movie to Be Released This May

Summer Camp, the new upcoming comedy from Roadside Attractions, has set a release date of May 31st for a nationwide theatrical release.

Roadside Attractions just garnered the rights to a new star-filled comedy and the studio has set its release date. Roadside will be releasing the female-centered comedy, Summer Camp, theatrically on May 31st. This film showcases three veteran actresses who play friends who used to attend a sleep away summer camp together and then reunite there again many years later.  In the forthcoming picture, which was helmed by Castille Landon, Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard play the women whose names are Nora, Ginny and Mary. Though the movie is set to appeal to fans of the Book Club pictures, there is also a lot of potential for Summer Camp to play beyond that targeted audience demographic given the upcoming film’s light-hearted story line.

Meanwhile, the big news is the presence of American Pie‘s hilarious dad, Eugene Levy, in the supporting cast of the new film as Nora’s love interest, Stevie D. Levy and Keaton have been said to be perfectly cast in the film as romantic partners. Meanwhile, seeing Bates and Woodard back on the big screen is going to be a joy for those who remember the great films these actresses have appeared in years ago. Bates is known for Fried Green Tomatoes while Woodard is most well-known for her turn in the Robert Downey Jr. comedy, Heart and Souls.

Diane Keaton has done some funny films lately such as Maybe I Do and Mack & Rita but Summer Camp seems to  be the type of female ensemble vehicle which suits the actress best. Financially successful female bonding movies like The First Wives Club have been in short supply these days. Summer Camp offers audiences the chance to see three great actresses have fun together on screen in a story that audiences should be able to relate to. With Levy in the cast, hilarity should ensue in a fashion that leads movie-goers to turn up to see the new film in theaters.

Roadside Attractions was one of the studios behind Ray Romano’s critical success, Somewhere in Queens, which was released last year to excellent notices and became a huge hit on streaming. The sky is the limit for Summer Camp to achieve success between both in its theatrical release and its eventual streaming potential. Familiar faces like Keaton, Woodard, Bates and Levy are the type of stars audiences look for and help make audiences interested when they’re looking for something easy-going to watch. In that regard, Summer Camp should certainly fit the bill.
