Jake Johnson to Star in Pickleball Comedy to be Produced by Ben Stiller

Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films will co-produce an upcoming pickleball comedy, The Dink, which has cast Jake Johnson in its leading role.

Jake Johnson has been designated as the leading actor in The Dink, the latest movie to be directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar). Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films (alongside Rivulet Films) will co-produce the upcoming comic production which will co-star Stiller in a supporting role within the picture. Also on board the cast of The Dink are heavy hitter screen veterans such as Mary Steenburgen and the great Ed Harris plus another big star — tennis pro, Andy Roddick.

Johnson is best known for his juicy roles in the films, Let’s Be Cops and Tag but he also played a significant role on the once enormously popular TV show, “New Girl.” A pickleball comedy could be Johnson’s ticket back into the limelight. Johnson recently wrapped his directorial debut, Self Reliance, which he also wrote and acted in. He will also be producing The Dink as well. He stars as a former tennis professional who ends up playing pickleball to win back the attention of his dad.

Josh Greenbaum usually takes on high-concept comedies such as Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar. The filmmaker did direct the disappointing, raunchy talking dog movie, Strays, as well but The Dink seems poised to be one of the director’s better received efforts considering the talent involved in front of the camera as well as behind it.

Recently, Ben Stiller’s production company was part of the latest project he starred in, Nutcrackers, which scored an eight-figure acquisition deal with Hulu. Stiller’s star status seems to be on the rise again as Nutcrackers looks to be a big streaming hit. The exact nature of Stiller’s supporting role in The Dink has yet to be revealed.

Ed Harris and Mary Steenburgen are old pros and have done darker films recently. These new roles for the respective stars will point them in a more comical direction. Harris, perhaps best known for his work in The Truman Show from 1998, appeared in a wonderful but wickedly evil supporting role in this year’s noirish gem, Love Lies Bleeding while Steenburgen’s best recent role was in 2021’s dark and gloomy Oscar-nominated drama, Nightmare Alley.

Jake Johnson’s star status is quickly rising again and with talents like Greenbaum and Stiller working their wonder behind the scenes, one can count on The Dink to be a comedy which will garner much attention from fans of humorous star vehicles such as this one.
