Venom 3 Moving into Pre-Production

The third installment of the Venom series is currently shifting into pre-production and, once again, will feature Tom Hardy in the leading role.

Tom Hardy will be reprising his role as Eddie Brock in the third Venom movie. We got a double dose of Brock and his intriguing but annoying sidekick, Venom, back in 2021. In Venom: Let There Be Carnage, we saw Brock take on Woody Harrelson’s evil character and the movie was a significant improvement over the 2018 original movie in the franchise. Later in 2021, audiences were treated to seeing Eddie at the end credits of Spider-Man: No Way Home which hinted that Brock and Venom would soon return to the silver screen. Venom fans will be happy to know the third picture in the series is officially kicking into pre-production mode.

When Hardy announced on social media that this third film in the series is happening, many of his followers were pleasantly surprised. Venom: Let There Be Carnage fell a bit short of its predecessor in terms of worldwide box-office grosses but the pandemic was partly to blame for that. The sequel still made a solid $213 million domestically and was a major bright spot in a year full of films that under-performed at the box-office.

The big question mark regarding the next Venom picture revolves around whether or not Michelle Williams will return to the series. Williams just recently scored a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her extraordinary work in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans. Williams’ character, Anne, was on shaky ground with Eddie in the second movie and the series may phase her out if the actress chooses to bow out of the franchise. Still, though, it is uncertain to most if Williams has a clause in her contract that would make her have to do at least a cameo in the third movie.

Kelly Marcel will be the director of the third Venom movie which may pique the potential viewers’ interest since the previous two movies were directed by men. She will be making her directorial debut. Marcel previously co-wrote the first Venom picture and wrote the screenplay for the second movie herself. Marcel’s involvement could make Williams stay on board the series as well since it could take these films in a different direction than the first two which were mostly more appealing to men than women. That could change this time out.

While the story line of this upcoming Venom movie is anybody’s guess, it is hopeful that it will improve upon the first two Venom movies and keep the franchise alive and well at the box-office. Also, better critic scores than the other two pictures would be like icing on the cake. Keep your eyes peeled for more stories as they develop on this exciting project.
