Troy Kotsur Returns to the Screen in a Gritty Upcoming Film

Academy Award winning actor, Troy Kotsur, is slated to be appearing in an upcoming dark thriller called In Cold Light.

For those who thought Troy Kotsur could be just a “flash in the pan” success story, the actor is setting out to prove those people wrong with his latest movie role. Kotsur won the Best Supporting Actor trophy for his work in the Best Picture winner, CODA, and is now set to appear opposite horror movie star, Maika Monroe in an ambitious film to be handled and co-produced by XYZ Films called In Cold Light.

Kotsur is a deaf actor who showed tremendous range as the struggling but devoted dad in CODA. Many people in Hollywood wondered if Kotsur would be making his way back to the screen after he won his many trophies for this beloved performance. Now, the actor is, indeed, making a return to cinema with a role that is a complete 180 degree turn from his last one. French-Canadian filmmaker, Maxime Giroux, will be helming the new picture set to star Kotsur in a juicy principal role.

To see Kotsur cast against a horror movie actress, Monroe, was something of a surprise. The story line of In Cold Light will center on Monroe’s character, Ava, who finds herself running for her life after her twin is killed as the film’s plot is set into motion. This upcoming picture was penned by Patrick Whistler and is set to shoot later this year.

Maika Monroe is going to be a formidable co-star for Kotsur to work with. Monroe is something of a “scary movie legend” having appeared in two midnight movie favorites, It Follows and the surprise hit, Watcher. The latter film was a routine stalker movie that built up a pretty solid fan base on the midnight movie circuits thanks to Monroe’s presence in it.

Troy Kotsur became something of an overnight sensation who had been around for quite some time. Many did not know his work too well before he launched into stardom with his performance in the truly moving dramatic film, CODA. If insiders were predicting a performer to win the Best Supporting Actor winner for the year 2021, Kotsur’s name wasn’t even in the equation until people saw CODA at Sundance and fell in love with it. Kotsur’s name carried through the whole year of 2021 until he suddenly became a lock to win the majority of the supporting actor awards.

In Cold Light will be introduced at Cannes to potential buyers and should easily generate plenty of interest since almost all of the audiences who saw CODA are eager to see Kotsur’s next movie role. Though this new project doesn’t seem like Oscar bait quite yet, all eyes are on Kotsur’s performance to see if he has what it takes to maintain the momentum in his high-profile career as an actor.
