MEAN GIRLS Stars Reprise Their Roles For Walmart Ad Though Rachel McAdams Sits it Out

Lindsay Lohan Plus Co Mean Girls

Walmart Ad Reunites a Few Stars of Mean Girls

Mean Girls stars Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert are now appearing in Walmart advertising promotions but the actress’s co-star, Rachel McAdams has chosen not to participate.

A Walmart ad targeted to Black Friday shoppers has showcased the talents of 2004’s hit movie, Mean Girls: Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert. These three stars are reprising their roles from the film but Rachel McAdams is curiously absent from the promotional efforts. A recent news article said that McAdams opted out of the advertisements which isn’t a surprise as her name has come up as a potential Oscar contender for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

Popcorn movie director Mark Waters helmed the 2004 comedy gem, Mean Girls, which starred a dream team of actresses. Walmart is unveiling a set of commercials starring the aforementioned original mean girls (save for McAdams). These stars who opted in for the commercials are playing their parts as if their characters have grown up and seem to now have children of their own in the ads.

This marketing strategy is genius because it will have fans of the 2004 picture looking to see the different ads and potential clever tie-ins to the movie. Some “Black Friday” and holiday season sales are starting November 8th at the giant retailer, Walmart. So, the advertisements have already started to pop up and are rekindling fond memories of the almost 20-year old movie for its fans.

The early heavy Walmart holiday shopping is expected to be carried through until November 27th by these Mean Girls promos. While the ads serve as a reunion for several of the old movie’s stars, they also will help push products at the superstore known as Walmart. This is a huge campaign that mixes pop culture from the past with that of the present.

Rachel McAdams has no hard feelings towards Lohan, Seyfried and Chabert. She isn’t part of the ads but McAdams could be a part of the Oscars next year if voters go for her supporting turn in one of the most intelligent comedies of the year– Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

Look for the stars who are appearing in the Walmart ads to pay homage to the classic Waters film by showing Seyfried’s character doing the weather and the girls dressed up in Santa costumes again. Waters’ movie has really stood the test of time. In a recent Regal Cinemas movie introduction of iconic lines, the line from Mean Girls, “You can’t sit with us” was recited and sparked a memory for many of the film’s fans who fondly recall Lacey Chabert’s priceless line delivery. Buy stuff from Walmart and watch the commercials this holiday season to see more Mean Girls memories sparkling again.
