Captain Marvel Passes the $1 Billion Mark at the Box Office

Captain Marvel has officially passed the $1 Billion mark at the world-wide box office.

Avengers: Endgame Ticket Sales Record, Runtime, and MCU Marathon

The advanced ticket sales for Avengers: Endgame have set a new record. Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis had this to say about the sales: “’Avengers: Endgame’ sales have exceeded all expectations and surpassed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ the previous record-holder, to become Fandango’s top-selling title in its first 24 hours of sales, and it accomplished that feat in only 6 hours.”

Avengers: Endgame has a runtime at or around three hours.

On April 23, 2019, twelve movie theaters in the United States and in Canada will be hosting a Marvel Cinematic Universe marathon where all twenty-two MCU films will be shown. The marathon will include Avengers: Endgame as its final film.

Avengers: Endgame will be released in U.S. theaters through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on April 26, 2019.

Akira Live-action Film Receives Tax Credit and Director Confirmed

The live-action Akira film is still happening and being directed by Taika Waititi. The California Film Commission has given the film production a $18.5 million tax credit.

Third film in Bad Moms’ Franchise Coming from STX

A third film in Bad Moms film franchise has been green-lit STX Films and will be called Bad Moms’ Moms. The film will star Cheryl Hines, Christine Baranski, and Susan Sarandon, the mothers of the characters portrayed in the first two films by Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn.

James Franco’s Zeroville Receives a Theatrical Release Month

myCinema has acquired the U.S. theater distribution rights to James Franco’s Zeroville. Zeroville will be released in September of 2019.

Production wraps on Live-action Cats Adaptation

Principal photography has concluded on the Tom Hooper’s live-action film adaptation of Cats. The film is based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and the long running Broadway theater production.

Cats will be released in U.S. theaters through Working Title on December 20, 2019.

Official Secrets given Theatrical Release Date

Gavin Hood’s Official Secrets, starring Keira Knightley, will be released in U.S. theaters through IFC Films on August 23, 2019.

Official Secrets‘ plot synopsis: “Charged with breaking the Official Secrets Act in Britain, and facing imprisonment, she reaches out to Ben Emmerson (Ralph Fiennes), one of the top lawyers in the country, to take her case and defend her actions. Showtime orders new TV series Intelligence

Spy thriller Intelligence has been ordered to series by Showtime. Mark Boal will write and direct the series.

Intelligence‘s plot synopsis: “based on real stories from around the world, [Intelligence] will explore how espionage intersects with politics, finance, media and Silicon Valley. The first season will dramatize the behind-the-scenes history leading up to the 2016 U.S. election, with each subsequent season looking at a major world event through the lens of covert operations.”

The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for a 10-episode second season by Netflix.

Showtime Wins Bid for Tom Ripley TV Adaptation

Showtime has won the bidding war to bring the world of Tom Ripley to the small screen. Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley book series, written for the screen by Steve Zaillian, will reportedly use all five of Highsmith’s novels to charter Tom Ripley’s numerous crimes and nuanced pathology.
