Weekend Impressions

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will be Number One at the box office over the weekend for the third week in a row. There are some action-packed films premiering this weekend but they don’t seem to have enough going for them to beat what Jumanji 2 will bring in this weekend.

The Post should remain in Second with a decent hold from its expansion last weekend and its current media push.

12 Strong will premiere in Third at the box office over the weekend. 12 Strong seems like a decent war film, based on true events, and it stars Thor a.k.a. Chris Hemsworth and Zod 2.0 a.k.a. Michael Shannon. The problem is that I do believe many people care enough about the plot of 12 Strong to make it champ over the weekend or a theatrical success. 12 Strong is not Lone Survivor.

Den of Thieves will premiere in Fourth at the box office over the weekend. Den of Thieves seems competently directed and acted but also generic. I like the fact that the thieves in the film get audacious, even in the face of increasing Police pressure, but that is about it. Den of Thieves doesn’t seem to equal or surpass Heat or The Town, the gold standards for heist films. The aforementioned films weren’t just about the robberies but the people involved in them, criminals and police.

The Commuter will be Fifth at the box office this weekend. This will be the last weekend in which The Commuter is in the Top Five at the box office.
