Now In-theater June 8, 2018
The motion pictures now in-theater are from various Hollywood and independent movie studios. Some of the films are in wide release (600 screens or more in the United States and Canada) and some are in limited release (a motion picture that is playing in a select few theaters across the country [typically in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco]).
This Week’s In-Theater Releases
Won’t You Be My Neighbor?
En el Septimo Dia (On the Seventh Day)
Hearts Beat Loud
The Quest of Alain Ducasse
Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist
Ocean’s 8 will be the Number One film at the box office over the weekend. The film has been getting good reviews, has name recognition, an all star cast, a few surprises, and momentum behind it (its coming out in the wake of Solo: A Star Wars Story third week of release). I have not seen any of the Ocean films after the first one but I have heard that they all have a certain charm. Ocean’s 8 looks as though it carries that torch forward.
Deadpool 2 will be Second at the box office this weekend. I would have said Solo: A Star Wars Story would be Second but the word-of-mouth on Solo is mixed. The word-of-mouth for Deadpool 2 is mostly positive and the two films were only separated by $6 Million last weekend at the box office.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be Third at the box office this weekend. I have never seen a Star Wars film drop this fast at the box office. This is literally unprecedented. I feel bad for all of the people involved in Solo getting smeared with the backlash over Star Wars: The Last Wars but this is the situation Disney created by releasing Solo so close to The Last Jedi. At this rate, with the release of Incredibles 2 next weekend, Solo: A Star Wars Story may be out of the Top Five in another week. Two weeks max.
Hereditary will be Fourth at the box. In a big upset, Hereditary would open in Third Place this weekend. Hereditary has had a series of effective trailers released for the film and an intense tone was set by them. The reviews are strong and A Quiet Place‘s influence at the box office is dimming. Part of that audience will shift over this weekend to Hereditary.
Hotel Artemis will open in Fifth. Hotel Artemis takes the criminal world building of John Wick and centers it in a single room (hotel) drama.
