MEGAN 2.0 (2025): Killer Female Doll Movie’s Upcoming Sequel Sets a Release Date

Megan 2.0 Set to Hit Theaters in 2025

The new horror movie, Megan, has been such a smash hit at the box-office that the sequel, Megan 2.0, has already received the green light to move forward.

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s new PG-13 rated horror movie, Megan, has earned a whopping $61 million so far domestically. Not too shabby for a new movie released in the doldrums of January. Now, the film has garnered news of an upcoming sequel that will be known as Megan 2.0. While the stars of the newly released first film, Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, are going to be coming back for the follow-up movie, the first film’s director, Gerard Johnstone, has not signed on quite yet. He may well sign on soon, though. Perhaps it was James Wan’s name on the production credits that got people into theaters, but audiences are having a lot of fun watching Megan. That PG-13 rating certainly helps!

Megan earned a “B” CinemaScore grade which isn’t too great but that mark is actually pretty solid for a horror movie. In comparison, the first Child’s Play movie from the late 1980’s also earned the same “B” rating and led to countless sequels and spin-off movies and even a television show. Could Megan end up as a television show too at one point? Who knows but it’s a definite possibility.

There is a set release date for Megan 2.0 already. It is going to come out on January 17, 2025. Akela Cooper wrote the script for the first picture and will be back to write the sequel. The titles of both films play on the doll’s name and use a “3” in place of the “e” in the cases of both pictures. M3gan 2.0 should have a slightly higher budget than the first movie’s minimal $12 million. There are countless possibilities for where the second picture could take the entertaining material which is centered on an evil doll who looks a bit like a warped young Olsen twin.

Allison Williams is grateful for Megan‘s success and will also be producing the sequel. There wasn’t much similarly themed competition for Megan at the box-office given a slimmer release schedule than usual from the major studios. Megan‘s studio seized the opportunity to market the movie to audiences who were ready to be entertained by a killer female doll picture. Given the humor interspersed in with the movie’s horror and a rating that allowed younger audiences to get in, the new movie has become something of a box-office miracle and it could come close to making $100 million domestically.

As of now, Megan‘s worldwide box-office total stands at $96 million so it will certainly gross well over $100 million worldwide when the box-office numbers are tallied. Megan currently holds a 95% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating making it one of the best reviewed films of the year so far.
