MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING (2025): Final Entry in Tom Cruise’s Spectacular Franchise Will be Nearly Three Hours in Length

Tom Cruise Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning

Mission: Impossible 8 is Even Longer than M:I 7

Expect the Mission: Impossible series to go out with a bang on May 23rd when the almost three-hours-long latest (and last) film in the franchise opens.

Let’s do this again, folks. You guys were so preoccupied with Barbenheimer two summers ago that Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One didn’t make as much at the domestic box-office as it should have. So, the upcoming eighth movie in the Tom Cruise series will be picking up a lot of the seventh film’s slack at the box-office. Director Christopher McQuarrie is counting on fans lining up in droves this time as the competition at the box-office could be a bit less fierce this go-around. The major competitor to M:I 8 is a family film remake from Disney called Lilo & Stitch and while that other movie may top the box-office, M:I 8 is likely to be a close number 2. Well, Cruise’s film could have been number 1, but its running time has been revealed to be two hours and 49 minutes, about six minutes longer than M:I 7.

On the other hand, some audiences may not complain about the length of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, though. With Memorial Day weekend soon approaching, one must remember that Top Gun: Maverick from 2022 was two hours and 11 minutes and managed to clean up at the box-office by being on several screens at some of the local mutiplexes it played on. Theaters may actually book a couple of prints of M:I 8 for Memorial Day weekend (that’s not counting IMAX screens) so don’t expect its running time to bother anyone other than people who don’t like to sit too long.

McQuarrie has probably planned that people who loved M:I 7 will want to stay for a while as the picture is poised to feature many big-budgeted action set pieces in the midst of its amazing story line. The 7th movie threw everything in but the kitchen sink, and people who saw that movie know that these films don’t skimp out on stunts and top-flight action scenes. In fact, these pictures thrive on pleasing action/adventure hungry audiences.

While Lilo & Stitch will get more daily shows per screen, reduced kids tickets will help make it a fierce battle between that Disney film and M:I 8 for the number 1 crown when the final box-office results for the premiere weekend of May 23rd are tabulated. With less competition and no clear action movie to steal the thunder during M:I 8‘s opening weekend, one should expect a $100 million opening domestic weekend for Cruise’s last movie in this very worthwhile action series.

Of course, many people are wondering if Cruise’s Ethan Hunt will be killed off since this new movie is being promoted as the last in the series. If you choose to accept this 8th mission, you will surely find out if Hunt will make it out of the action unscathed! This film will also be screened out of competition at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival too! Look for reviews to appear shortly after that and keep an eye out for a FilmBook review closer to the film’s release date.
