In 2021, it all started up again almost 30 years after the original Wayne’s World was a box-office sensation. Mike Myers and Dana Carvey appeared as their characters from the movie in a Super Bowl commercial which was much adored by viewers who fondly remembered the original picture and the “Saturday Night Live” sketch on which it was based. Now, Carvey put a picture on his Instagram account in which his character Garth is painting Wayne. Viewers of the post are starting to wonder if this is a sign that Wayne’s World 3 will actually come into fruition some 30 years after Wayne’s World 2 crashed and burned at the box-office.

Wayne’s World 2 was rushed into production in 1993 following the big-time success of 1992’s Wayne’s World movie. Though both films garnered “A-” CinemaScore grades, the box-office results told a different story. The 1992 original movie earned an excellent $121 million at the box-office but the sequel bombed with just $48 million and a paltry $214.00 from international ticket receipts. The Rotten Tomatoes scores were also of interest. The first film stands at a 79% approval rating while the sequel has just a 60% approval score. Still, absence makes the heart grown fonder and since seeing Wayne and Garth on the Super Bowl commercial, people are yearning to see these characters in a movie together again.

The Instagram post could be taking a shot at Titanic which was just re-released in theaters and the post could simply be making fun of the scene in that picture where Jack paints Rose. However, fans are hoping it’s more than just that. Titanic was also a Paramount co-production so don’t count out that this post from Carvey was nothing more than a spoof.

Director Penelope Spheeris has been contacted about the possibility of doing another Wayne’s World movie but by fans, not Paramount. Spheeris likes the idea of the two goofballs, Wayne and Garth, having kids in a potential continuation of the franchise.

Most people know Wayne’s World as the movie where a bunch of guys (headed by Wayne and Garth) rock out in a car to the Queen song, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” but the first movie, in particular, was actually a real gem. It was more than just that one scene that made the movie special. Unfortunately, the mediocre sequel killed the franchise for a while. Hopefully, it can be brought back to life with a successful third movie if there’s any justice in the world.
