LEFT SEAT: Michelle Rodriguez To Star in New Thriller From Director Ben Younger

Michelle Rodriguez To Star in New Thriller From Director Ben Younger

Michelle Rodriguez To Appear in New Thriller

Film director Ben Younger‘s upcoming suspense thriller, Left Seat, has cast veteran actress Michelle Rodriguez in the principal role.

When Ben Younger directed the superb crooked stock market drama, Boiler Room, back in 2000, Hollywood took notice. Now, the television and film director is tackling a suspense thriller titled Left Seat which has cast Fast X star, Michelle Rodriguez, in the leading role. Left Seat is also set to star Richard Gere of Pretty Woman and Chicago fame.

This forthcoming project will be shooting in Germany and centers on Rodriguez’s character, a woman who works as a pharmaceutical representative. She boards a charter plane on which the pilot falls unconscious and she must fly the plane on her own during a storm with the help of a man (Gere)’s voice she hears only on the radio. This high-concept thriller will showcase Rodriguez’s strong action movie skills which will be put to the test in a story line that sounds a bit like Flight Risk, the fairly recent Mark Wahlberg suspense thriller. James Weber Brown is slated to have a small role in what is essentially a two-character picture, more or less.

Gere and Rodriguez are both screen veterans with Gere having starred in some of the most popular films of all-time, including his role in An Officer and a Gentleman. Michelle Rodriguez’s first big movie, Girlfight, was released the same year as Younger’s box-office hit, Boiler Room, which featured Giovanni Ribisi and co-starred Ben Affleck and Ron Rifkin. Rodriguez is most well-known for her turns in the Fast movies in which she played opposite Vin Diesel who, himself, appeared in Boiler Room, too.

Ben Younger doesn’t make movies every day. He has worked in television and only directed a handful of feature films which makes his return to working behind the camera big news. He directed Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman in a dramedy called Prime in 2005 as well as a small boxing drama known as Bleed for This which starred Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart in 2016. Younger, himself, has been said to have worked as a pilot, himself.

Left Seat looks likely to be a wild ride with Rodriguez’s character taking control of the plane under Gere’s character’s guidance. It’s the type of thriller that typically keeps audiences on the edge of their seats and if it’s anything like Flight Risk, one can expect audiences to be intrigued. It will be exciting to see Younger helm another feature film and see if he still has that “wicked jump shot” that propelled Boiler Room to become a major success story long after it left movie theaters over a quarter century ago.
